Ok so I have like 300 movies on my PC on a few hard drives. Have them with just standard folder view with each file named etc The shining.MKV

Any way as I watch them on my projector am looking for type of HTPC software that will allow me to disply each movie with a cool poster and info about the film etc.

NOw with 300 odd movies is it to much to ask to search the internet and auto find all the info for me and display it, or have I got to do it one at a time?

Thanks for any help !!

:)

Sounds like XBMC might be what you are looking for :)

I believe that will go off to IMDB and auto-fill images and description for movies etc while displaying them in an awesome way

Personally I use Plex (originally forked from XBMC) on the Mac as I prefer it's library management over that of native XBMC.

The server end is available on OSX, Windows and Linux (although the latter is very beta really) and there are clients for many platforms.

I just use the standard Windows Media Center in Windows 7 with Media Browser!.. nicely configurable and does the searching all by its self!...

If you have anything obscure just use Media Scout to scrape it and Media Browser is then happy!!..

yuk, XBMC is significantly better in every possible conceivable way - why people still use that trash I will never understand.

Be sure to check out what Thumbgen has to offer as well: ( www.thumbgen.org )

This looks nice, my dad has an AC Ryan HD and it says it will work with it.

I tried XBMC on my PC, it's nice but as it takes over fully it's a bit annoying for me, my PC is multi use, browsing, gaming, movies and music. Unless I was doing something wrong am I better off sticking to VLC? I do quite like the idea of having all the info come up.

I am another Mediabrowser viewer too, after trying xbmc for the best part of 8 months i went over to mediabrowser and havent looked back since.

I dont like showy stuff, i just have the pearl theme running and even my 5 year old son can use it all.

Horses for courses i suppose.

But i do agree here, XBMC is probably what the OP should use.

Had a play... and... erm... have to concede!!, Mediabrowser had a flid with my collection and apart from wiping the entire cover/backdrop collection from it's memory (no matter what I do it won't get the correct ones back) it seems to think I'm in France, Spain and Germany and all the covers are in those respective languages, and even the metadata has been re-written too!!

Got Metabrowser to re-write the correct data/images and loaded into XBMC...

Needs a little fettling/customising, and The 1960's Time Machine's Cover is the Spanish one, but apart from that I've actually got it working with my Movies and even the TV shows (could never get that working before!!)...

Only gripe I have, well 2 to be exact... 1) I can't get the Weather working!, 2) The Music Library looks crap!!..

But neither of those are a major prob, I have my Phone for the weather and Winamp for my music!! :)
