The main story told in Krater begins with Shadows over Solside, the first of three episodes set in the Krater world. The opening episode presents one of three major factions located in the crater, the Solside nation. It allows you to explore its many towns and settlements or venturing into its vast wilderness and many access points to the Underside.

Start to explore Krater from the town of Norrmalm, a lively hub close the ridge that separates the crater nations from the rest of the world. There you will find plenty of people that can guide you in how to set up a team and equip proper gear. They may also be able to hook you up with some paid assignments so your rookie team can start earning their keep.

First player race is humans who comes with four class specializations (Bruiser, Medikus, Regulator and Slayer).
First episode of the Krater trilogy main story and more than 200 side quests.
Full access to the Solside nation and its array of towns and settlements.
A number of human and less-human enemy factions as well as wasteland beasts and Underside monsters.

Coming to steam :D

What other action rpg featured lots of guns, ah yes...Space Siege :(

Hopefully this is better than that pile of lame.

For anyone interested in this they are doing a pre-order offer including some early game access for €9.99 this weekend (normal price €21.99). Although I find it slightly doubtful an Indie title like this will sell for €22 on Steam?

Pre-order the coming release of Krater Collector's Edition.

EARLY ACCESS OFFER

We will constantly be updating the game on Steam throughout the final stages of development. If you have pre-ordered the game, you'll be able to play it from now up until the release and beyond, and get to see the game as it is being completed!

Just be aware though, the game isn't done until it's done, so things will change and your progression in pre-release may be lost.

CONTENT

-Main release of Krater-Shadows over Solside (please note that the final game will not be available until release, planned for 24th of April 2012)

- New character DLC (for the Brainiac Mutant Healer)

- Digital soundtrack (14 tracks by Christian Gabel including exclusive material and artwork from the film that inspired Krater)

I did stump up the princely sum of £8.64 for some access and spent about half an hour or so on it.

1st impressions:
* It's pretty
* It is pre-alpha code so there are quite a few issues and unimplemented features. Most noticeable ones are some path finding issues, some rendering glitches and a lot of placeholder labels.
*The world is going to be big!
* It plays like a lot of other top down adventure rpg's, this one appears to be all real-time. At least I couldn't find a pause button to queue some commands.
* You get a team of 3 which are standard tank, healer and damage/crowd control. Each has 2 abilities which are on keys 1-6. Tank has aoe taunt & swipe, healer has long heal & channel heal, DD guy has a stun and a slow.
* Everything promises to be customisable, ie, characters, abilities and items. I haven't got far enough in to try it out.
* Controls are simple
* UI is clean

I'd say it has a got potential.

edit: forgot the last one, there is character perma-death involved which ramps up the stakes somewhat. Especially if you have a lot of time and effort in a character!

I like the sound of character perma-death involved"

Just means i'll have to take my time with the game and not rush into fights without worry.

theres no story or anything at all yet just a map with locations you can enter and kill whatever is inside.

the only one i bothered going in was small and basicly 4-5 corridors with a few mobs inside each one, nothing at all to do after killing them so it all felt pointless..

theres not really anything to test apart from combat which feels pretty boring to me as theres so little to actually manage

Fatshark’s Krater goes into beta testing today. The tactics-focused action RPG is due out on the 12th June, but buying it now lets you get in and start playing right away, and now there’s much more of the game available to those who do.

I had forgot all about this. Another step taken along the road to getting it released.

looking at this is making me quite excited at the prospect of playing it. A new AMD driver has come out for it too. Apparently it's quite a DX11 monster to run too.
