Its way to big and bright to be a star Its been sitting steady in its position since i noticed the bright blip! I cant make out if its a planet or what.

Here are some pics with some ajoining stars which are just as bright but this specific one just sticks out.

Just wanted to know if anyone had any idea what it is.

Im in ipswich and im seeing it looking south easterly I reckon.

As others have said, it's Venus and Jupiter... they've been quite noticeable for a few weeks now, so you can't have been looking at the sky much!
It was the number one read story on BBC News a while back.

How expensive a telescope would you need to see any detail on them? Can you make out the big spot or is that something only for super telescopes? :)

I'm thinking any telescope within a normal price range would just see a bright light? lol

With a half decent home telescope you can make out Saturn's rings, Jupiter's moons, Andromeda galaxy etc. Go the astronomy thread here in GD, some people have taken some great shots aiming through their scopes.

£500 will get you something decent, anything below that, you will also by bulldozer over 2600K.

and yes its venus and jupiter
