So there is a show off your hardware thread, but there is no "What essential apps to get thread", maybe this could turn into one?

So what apps are your top priority to get when you get a new mac or switching from windows or just your favourite apps to get on your mac in general?

  • Unarchiver
  • Photoshop Suite CS5
  • xCode
  • Coda
  • Transmit
  • Thunderbird
  • Google Chrome
  • Mornings
  • Twitter
  • Microsoft Suite
  • Right zoom
  • Alfred

This is all I can think of at the moment, so what are your essential apps?

Since fresh installing my MBP the other week I've only installed Chrome, VLC and Sophos AV. I'm of the opinion you should just install things as and when the need arises rather than do it in bulk up front.

Sparrow for Mac

Also posted in the Mac/OS X Sticky at the top of Software thread!
.....

Sparrow is a good alternative to default mail application on Mac/OS X. (also available for iOS)

It costs, but its a very good application and I haven't looked back!

Currently I have 3 email accounts on it:

My University Email which goes through Outlook/Exchange or whatever it is.

My Google Email account.

And my Personal Website email.

Sending an email image, I didn't use my personal email just in case, but my University one instead. Just to show you the interface for it etc.

Please note: There are much better videos on the net demonstrating the functions of Sparrow.

Hyperdock and BetterSnapTool if you want to be productive. Hyperdock has some of the features of BetterSnapTool built in but if you value customisation it's well worth getting them both. They are both features in Windows since Vista and if you value multitasking or any sort of real productivity they are utterly essential. Living without BetterSnapTool was horrible.

Are they free or paid for apps?
