Taking a break from some uni work, decided to have a play with an overclock on my 6950 for the first time with unlocked MSI Afterburner (to take it past the clocks usually allowed which are 925/1325)

900/1325 Clocks, mV = 1100

Fans were at 48% max on auto.

950/1350 Clocks, mV = 1179

Fans were at 57%, and I think they went up to 65-70%!

I have to say I am impressed! Thought I would share in case any one else is looking for comparisons or anything :D

Twin Frozr III cooler is great - I can't even hear it next to me up to about 40-45% fan speed and when I need the extra heat dissipation it does it very well!

PS: I realise it says LogMeIn Mirror Driver but I don't seem to be able to change it, doesn't seem to have any impact on FPS/Clocks so don't see any issue personally. Might try some more clocking, I'd go to about 1200mV before I start bottling out...

955/1350 Clocks, mv = 1185

Temps got into high 70s, fan speed at 80%

Not going to put any more voltage through it though, going to try higher core and see how far i get on these volts.

knew I should have done it with that on :p

I'll do some more... interested to see how good my card can do! Looking to get a second for Crossfire soon (BF3 ofc...)

955/1370 Clocks, 1190mV :D

Temps @ 70, fans 80%

just noticed scores went down :( think i've had enough for tonight anyway... going to see how BF3 performs!

Push the memory too far and error correction kicks in.

It looks like it's going faster but it's actually reducing performance.

Concentrate on the GPU core as overclocking the memory achieves very little in comparison.

I leave the memory speed alone on my unlocked HD 6950s but I can get the GPU core up to 1GHz.

Just for a bit of fun though, not hours of gaming (when I have the time!).

Yeah I've been pushing the CPU core more than the memory, when I do a bit more tomorrow afternoon, i'll drop the mem clock and see what i can get out of 1.2v on the core clock.

Just did 955/1370 30 mins of BF3 gaming on High settings, was getting 45fps which was 5-8 more than before so thats cool, i wouldn't game on any higher settings than that though!

Sounds like you got a pretty nice clocker there! Mine doesn't like going past 900 core on 1.2v :(

Every time I read threads like this I do get the urge to tinker with my card again, though I fear I might be upset again xD

Keep us posted how the overclock goes mate. ;)

Its very tempting to forget sleeping and push for 1GHz at this point :D but I think I will postpone, I'll do some maths work on paper tomorrow and push up the clocks 2mhz at a time on the core and see how i get on 1.2v, i would consider going to 1.25v just to see how high I can get a stable run of Heaven with the settings I last used, but not for full time (think i'll stick to 1.18v) but seeing as i seem to have a good clocker, why waste the opportunity?

been able to get 930/1340 on stock volts so I thought it would have been a pretty good clocker to start with!

Yep, pretty good. I had one that went 950 on stock 1.1V and later had another that only did 820, yep, 820...

/snip/ ;)

lol...well they never get better, so spare yourself.

Dropped the memory clock down to 1310, trying 965 core, doesn't seem to work on 1180 or 1185mV, trying 1190mV now, if that doesn't work I'll push the voltage up even more and Heaven to run through up to 1.22-1.25v or so i think.

even 1.2v is crashing Heaven at 965 core clock! Gets to stage 6 of Heaven with the same settings as above (tessellation normal, shaders + textures high, AA 2x, Anisotropy 4x) at 1080p. I'll try up to 1.21v but if it doesn't like it i won't try any higher.

You really need to run at 4xAA as you can't compare to any of the scores in the heaven thread otherwise.

Leave the memory@stock, chances are your core will go higher, memory oc'ing the 69**'s doesn't get you much at all, it's the core that counts.

MY TF3 only goes up to 880/1325 @ stock volts, but gives me 71.2FPS and a heaven score of 1792 (with tessellation off)
