Inside of Tubes Coated After 2 Weeks - Help Needed

Hi, I posted a quick pic of my discolored tubes last week in another posters thread but didn't really worry about it at the time as I thought it would probably be something to do with new kit and something discoloring the water.

Well I've just drained the loop down and the water is clear and its the tubing that is coated on the inside.

The tubing is Primochill PrimoFlex Pro LRT 1/2" ID - 3/4" OD and the fluid is Mayhems Ultra Pure H20 Water with Mayhems Biocide.

Here are some pics - the loop is drained:

The pic above and below show a piece of the tubing that hasn't been fitted.

The last picture shows the tubing still fitted on the left, a piece I have cut from the loop in the middle and a new piece on the right.

Does anyone have idea what might have caused this?

I've spoken briefly to where I bought the water cooling parts from (wasn't here (did by most of the pc components here)) who are happy to replace the tubing and said to call them in the morning to sort out.

I'm new to water cooling (this was my first loop) so I have no idea if what has caused this could also gunk up the cpu block?

Also, as I'm now going to have to redo my loop do I need to replace the seals on the fittings or anything else?

Any help would be really appreciated as I don't want this problem again.

Ouch, looks nasty

i'm not having any problems as such, been using Xspc tubing for a while now, had the Mayhems Aurora Nebula in my last loop for a couple of months with no staining on the tubes at all.

Another user of the XSPC stuff, not problems, been running with mayhems X1 for 3+ months now, still clear.

Didn't mlwood mention something about masterkleer/primochill tubing all coming from the same factory and was under the impression it was something to do with how the tubing was prepared? I'm sure he'll be about shortly.

Time to strip down the cpu block and put serious thought into using water at 50p a liter instead of exciting coolant at £10 a go.

I think mayhems said it was caused by cheap plasticiser (sp?) used in the manufacture of the tubing. I have the same tubing in a smaller diameter with the same issue.

Seems like a bit of a joke to be honest.

Spend over £400 on what's supposed to be very good gear and after just 2 weeks have to redo the whole loop to replace the tubing and fluid (at more cost).

So should I really strip the CPU block as well?

They all seem to have the same problem as I have and the threads go back to January of this year meaning the major water cooling suppliers who sell this tubing MUST have known about this problem for ages.

Wasn't there a whole bunch of posts a six months back about a similar situation with distilled water, biocide and silver coil. The conclusion of which was that it was caused by the biocide.

Posts are in the o/cing and cooling forum, where w/c was talked about before we got a new home.

A lot of the posts in that thread point to PT Nuke - I'm using Mayhem's Biocide, would this cause the same problems?

On Mayhems Facebook page they tell you to avoid primo chill tubing and Mayhems liquids as the primo chill tubing leaks plasticiser, reacts with the coolant and discolors tubing.

Mayhems recommends using Clearflex tubing with there coolants. I've got mine ordered and it will hopefully be here tomorrow. I will report back how I get on.

I wish they had mentioned it on their website as well.

I asked in the discoloring thread what tubing they recommend and was told clearflex so quickly ordered some from eBay. Sadly I didn't know and it wasn't mentioned that its not recommended for compression fittings which I use.

Luckily this is not a problem as the person I bought the tubing from hasn't sent it anyway and refuses to answer emails

Not having much luck with tubing :(

I have also had this with every Tygon tubing I have had. (and only ever wanted Tygon)

But I have always had mayhems ultra or distilled with killcoil and pt nuke.

Might try a mayhems per mixed this time and see how I get on.

Its Primochill and nothing to do with Mayhems there is a Massive page over at OCN about primochill and its problems and promochill know all about it and haven't responded to the public complaints yet. It seems like these batches are now hitting the uk as well.

This is one of the biggest threads on OCN with 816 posts and 30,720 Views this shows how wide spread this problem is -> http://www.overclock.net/t/1199158/plasticizer-problems-discussion-gallery/0_20 Tygon tubing is all so made at the same factory as well hence you see the same problem happening with tygon. Clearflex isnt hence why we recommend you use clearflex.

This OFC is my own humble opinion and not of any ones else .. Masterclear apparently works fine from reports from our users and people all so like XSPC tubing . Ive all so tested Thermochill tubing lately and had no problems with that either.

Its nothing to do with biocide its all so been noted that plain di water and distilled water have the same effect. The black tubing its more apparent as it has a black background.

Cheers mlwood37 for posting, so if I swap the tubing over to XSPC (seems popular on here with no problems) then add your fluids the same as I already have, probably adding some of your red dye, I should be fine?

I've had tygon R3603 hose in mine and there is no discolouration and that's after the coolants been in there for nearly 4 years!! I use Feser One pre mixed UV coolant.
