7950 stuck at 500mhz using video issue

Hi there,

I have the gigabyte windforce 7950 and understand that this clocks at 500mhz when watching video. Problem is I have a dual monitor setup and like to keep an eye on the cricket while playing a game...

A little frustrating from a card that cost me £350.

Does anyone know whether this is likely to be fixed (ie driver issue) or if I'm stuck with it (in which case I shall send it back and swap for a 670).

I've used GPU-Z whilst in a game (with video running as well) and my 7950 sticks at 500mhz- rather annoying when trying to play BF3.

I am guessing it's something they have hard coded into the card, Cards run hotter running dual screens anyway let alone running a game and a video through them, it will be done to aid the capability card.

Perhaps there is a review out there of the card with test on different applications on separate screens.

It took me ages to figure out it was video causing it. I like to do the same! Play Fifa and watch match. I think you can turn it off somewhere it's the system using the GPU to power/run the video. "GPU hardware acceleration" or something along the lines of that is what I personally think it is. I haven't tried any further to resolve the issue.

Also had the same problem for while, left me all confuzzled for a little while. But after turning off hardware acceleration in flash, its been good for a couple of years... well as good as a 5770 can be *cries*

don't need a dual monitor set up, just leave iplayer/bbc news running in the background and play somes games, check your gpu clocks.

Also anyone know how to permanently disable hardware acceleration ? Every day I always forget to disable it. drags my performance down.

Right, I have done some testing...

Turning 'hardware acceleration' off fixes the problem (500mhz) in the games I have tested for both silverlight and flash player.

Except... When using silverlight and watching skyplayer and trying to play Battlefield 3 when you maximise the game the skyplayer feed is interrupted by an error. This is rather annoying as the whole point of my dual monitors is to watch a days cricket with an occasional game of BF3. Bah.

I don't suppose anyone knows a fix to this?
