Hi, i need some advice.
i just bought a used Asrock P55 Pro mobo and an i5 750.
just installed them both into my case this morning.
installed Win 7, then i was just downloading updates etc.... when smoke started to come from my case.
i immediately unplugged the power, had a look inside the case, and it was full of smoke.
i left if for 10 mins to clear, then i removed the mobo from the case.
there is a burn mark under the orange chipset cooler Pic. A (i think its a chipset cooler) its between the 2 right hand mosfets and above the little black square
also there is a burn mark underneath the mobo Pic B

what would have caused this? or was the motherboard faulty? and i take it, this is now unsafe to use

There could have been a short or its just a faulty motherboard, were there any loose mb standoffs, etc?

Maybe a power surge, lets hope it hasnt taken out you cpu as well.

no, all the standoffs were fitted, and tight, and there was nothing loose in the case,
there is not even a standoff point near there, and also the position of the mobo would make that area in the top, rear of my case.

regarding the cpu, i have no way of checking :(
i have a corsair HX520w which has been rock solid all the time i have had it

If you motherboard was used maybe they will take a look at it for you, but when something burns its very hard to prove who is at fault.

Did you buy it from the members market ?

yeah from the MM.
i did notice, that when i fired up coretemp, the VID tab was blank.
was just downloading cpu-z when it happened.

i sent him a pm through trust, will wait and see what happens.
i also sent him a link to this thread.
