Hey all.

As some may know i have a few threads asking about upgrade options i.e stuff for a sb 2500k or ivy 3570k setup.

I kinda have a inkling to most things but im really not sure about an air cooler for said cpus.

So lets say i have a 2500k and overclock it to say 4.3-4.5ghz which cooler would be best keep in mind about a max price of say £30. Now that can be new or could be from the MM so keep that in mind and not rely on things from ocuk store for just new stuff. Preferably not to go past 60c ideally but 70c at max temp for load on prime for example.

Same question but for an ivy 3570k cpu. As they should be roughly the same price in MM for £115-120 for 2500k and £125-130 for a 3570k (or least i hope lol) Preferably not to go past 60c ideally but 70c at max temp for load on prime for example.

But with factoring in mb, cpu and ram im probably left with not a lot for a cooler which about 30 is the max im planning tbh.

Am i being nieve with expecting a cooler at this price? I bought a tuniq tower 120 for 10-15 iirc when i was getting a q6600 a few years back and they were a decent cooler at the time so i was hoping to get something like that for this new build i.e popular and cheap lol tho a bump to £30 for somit a bit more decent i was thinking instead of a 10-15 like last time for the tower lol.

Its more than likely i might have to get it from the MM if its really impossible to get a new one for £30 tho. So keep that in mind incase there is a cooler that "could" show up there for the price range, and state which could be there for £30 ish. Then if i see it i can snap it up. :)

Edit - this is something i think might be around my max price range for a cooler, no idea if it will cool a 2500k or 3570k at 4.5ghz tho, or what temps it would show under stress testing and idle etc, but what do you think of this one?

Well all I can say is I don't think you will get them temps with a 3570k, it's possible with a 2500k, but I just went from a 2500k to 3570k, the 2500k was fine with temps, max of about 60c no matter what at 4.6ghz and 1.392 vcore, the 3570k on the other hand will do 4.5ghz at 1.320 vcore, stable, but prime95 will send temps into mid 80's on a full custom water loop, but if you fancy deliding the 3570k then all should be well again regarding temps.

I wont be delidding a cpu, i wouldnt trust myself at all doing that or have the patients for the work involved with it all (saw a vid about it).

Hmm mid 80s eh. :( Is that just prime as i have heard a lot of talk about not using it or it would damage it and all sorts and only to use certain stress tools. Tho i think they just say that to downplay the temp problem with ivy but tbh im not that clued up as im only looking recently into hardware for a upgrade.

Well the temp problem is purely down to the paste intel used, it's fixable only with deliding unfortunately, but I just get on with using it tbh, not running bench's to check for stability, it's not crashed on me yet and temps are fine using it for everyday stuff.

Does no one have a 3570k on an air cooler doing 4.2 to 4.4ghz ish?

Noctua NH-D14 cpu cooler. with same cpu as yours in a Ft02 case, I had it stable at 4.3, went to 4.5 but needed to mess about with voltages etc,,,

Clocked at stock till new card graphic card delivered.

keep in mind the Noctua is huge and pricey.

my 3570k is running at 4.4 on a Prolimatech Megahalem, idles of about 29c max load after 12hr stress was 74C never seen close to that with normal use/gaming

Got a pair of the ocuk tech lab fans on it atm in push/pull http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FG-027-ZW but its got a distinct whine to it, so ill be changing the fans soon to somethin quieter.

Prolimatech Megahalems with a single Papst 120mm fan here. Silent at idle, nice whooshing sound at full load and pushes insane amounts of air. Load temps 75c.

I had the Phanteks with both fans attached at first. Load temps were around 82c.

The huge dual tower coolers are inefficient for Ivybridge imo. The heatpipes are too long so most of the heat gets trapped in the lower 1/3rd of cooler, where little air flows over the fins. This is what I noticed with the Phanteks. The top was room temp while the bottom was rather hot. With my Megahalems the temperature is relatively even over the entire heatsink.

Thanks for the replies, i feel a little guilty that i went and bought the watercooler setup antec h20 620 for £43 which i felt was a good deal and was a bit more than my budget but i thought well it is ivy and i might wana overclock to at least 4.4 and i aint ever tried water before and heard these units are nice.

Sry bout that, but nice replies non the less and if i ever want to switch back to a hsf unit ill consider the above and im sure other ppl in the same situation wanting to know a cooler for the cpu will be greatful too.

Thanks peeps. :)
