Would have been such an epic stadium, I remember seeing a list of all the one's being built and that was definitely one of the top 3. Valencia however only have themselves to blame spending beyond their means for more than a decade, and the economic collapse was the final blow.

They're going to start working on it again soon. Sold a load of players and got backing from some bank. Due to open 2 years from now.

Yeah Bankia are giving Valencia CF the money to finish the stadium and will be getting land in return as well as massively reducing the Valencia CF debt. The Future for Valencia's club is looking pretty good now. http://www.superdeporte.es/valencia/2011/12/12/acuerdo-bankia-acabar-estadio/147449.html

People died making that stadium so it there would have been uproar if they ditched it.

Good news. Always produced some good players. I'd like to see them develop more on the academy front and focus on developing even more players.

Aren't Bankia the bank in big trouble at the moment in Spain? http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/b061a4e4-f6ad-11e1-827f-00144feabdc0.html#axzz25XFjrdvS

An epic monument to the stupidity of football finances in the early 21st century is how I suspect it will be remembered. The world of football finance has gone mad and it seems as the big money concentrates steadily into fewer and fewer clubs we are going to see more fall by the wayside and I suspect quite a few self destruct in the process.

Looks like it could have been a stunning stadium if they had had the money to finish it.

New revised cost-cutting version of the stadium.

Valencia unveil new-look, cost-cutting Nou Mestalla

Valencia’s Nou Mestalla has sat half-finished for four years, but a new cost-cutting design has been unveiled that could see the massive state-of-the-art stadium finally reach completion.

Architect Mark Fenwick was given the task of designing a new vision for the remainder of the 61,500 seat stadium, which will be built on the current foundations that were abandoned when the club ran themselves into the ground in 2009.

According to Fenwick, measures have been taken to reduce the cost in five major areas; underground parking, the metal structure, the façade and roof, stadium capacity and interior decoration.

“To date, €98 million has been spent on the stadium. The budget to finish it was €160 million, and we would need around another €100 million to finish it as shown. It is real. We have calculated and compared prices. It is a €200 million stadium for 65,000 spectators (€3,500 per seat), which is one of a kind in the world of football at the moment. It is very cost-effective compared to other projects. These are very significant savings given the current financial situation. There is a lot of passion surrounding this project.”

The new management, under new club president, Amadeo Salvo is determined to finally giving the stadium they have been desperately waiting for, for the better part of a decade.
