So I bought the Gigabyte 7950 on offer the other day (very pleased with it) but it was brought to my attention by a fellow OCUker that his box came unsealed i.e. not in selophane. Same as mine.
Furthermore the antistatic bags that the cardcomes in did not have that special security sticker which often comes with graphics cards (i.e. sometimes a yellow sticker).

Can anyone from OCUK verify if sounds in order or are these part of a batch of RMAs or something? Clarification would be really appreciated. Thanks.

I have brought this to the attention of someone who maybe able to help, if you get an answer tonight or during office hours I cant say.

Exactly same thing happened to me as well mate. Clarification would be really appreciated from OCUK.

I dont think the boxes come shrink wrapped anyway. Just for reference! I recieved the Gigabyte 7970 windforce which was on offer last week, and noticed that the anti-static bag which contains the Graphics card, was sealed with what looked like normal sellotape rather than a circuler type security sticker which I found rather odd.

Iv'e returned mine under their 14 days satisfaction guarantee policy anyway, as the card doesn't suit my needs, and probably going for an Msi card instead.

manju just won the internet. Well played sir.

Looks like it doesnt come with selophane and its selotape used for sealing the bag. Looks like all is well :) Thank you all.

its not normally a security sticker on the bag anyway its usually either sellotape or a yellow tape with the warning electronic / static symbol.

My Gigabyte outer box also came unsealed, (maybe a strip of ordinary sellotape)

Inside the GPU was in an unsealed anti static bag, or did i put the sellotape from the anti static bag on the outer box? erm? yeah. Anyway...

It was brand new, you can usually tell, it smelt new and the Memory cooling silicon had not settled on to the IC's, it was actually pushing the PCB down, bending it at the point of the inner edge of the IC's and the alloy cooling contact plate, it took a few hours use before that settled.

Another way of telling is close inspection of the PCI-Express edge connector. After 1 insertion you would see little marks on the gold contacts.
My 7970 box was not security sealed and the anti-static bag was just plain selotaped.

My paranoia was people buying cards and then sending them back after checking out the ASIC quality as read using GPU Z or just overclocking them to their limit before deciding to keep them or not :-|

It would be illegal for DSR returns to be resold as new though.

Which actually begs the question.... what happens to DSR returns because I am sure there are a considerable number of them and surely they get recirculated? Or are they sold on as "B-Grade"?

Out of interest why would it be illegal? (not having a go, just wonder if there was a law stating so)

As far as I am aware, if something is not brand new, it cannot be sold as such.

In my last company, all DSR phones could only be sold as b-grade or used as insurance replacements, they could not be resold.
