Internal HDD disappears when using HDD dock built in case.

Hey everyone,

I have just been using the dock on my case (cm690) to dock a 2.5 inch HDD and noticed that when I plug it in, one of my internal HDDs (3.5 inch sata) dissappears from the "PC" (I.e. not in my computer, disk part, or device manager).

As soon as I unplug the docked HDD, my internal HDD comes back.

Any ideas why this is happening, I assume this isn't right?

Thanks in advance.

I have intel rapid storage installed and noticed that when I use the built in dock it says "disk in port 5: removed" and "Disk on port 2: detected". I thought maybe there is an issue with port 5, so I moved the sata cable to port 3 (for the internal HDD).

This hasn't solved the problem unfortunately, now it just says "disk in port 3: removed" rather than "disk in port 5: removed".

I am stumped.

I have a Coolmaster II case and when I use the same motherboard as you and the external dock it worked a treat.

It continues to work that way now with my UD5H.

Not sure if I did anything special - apart from not using port 2 or 5.

Thanks for the reply mate, maybe I should try moving the port the dock is connected to, rather than the internal HDD.

I'm wondering if there is some sort of BIOS setting or something that is causing this to happen, very annoying.

Out of interest do you have the intel rapid storage software installed?

No I do not have the Intel software installed and see no need to.

For me, as I remember, I just avoided the noted ports and then that was it. I do not remember anything specific to either of the boards I noted to get it to work - it is, as far as the board cares, simply a device plugged into a SATA port.

So you got the sata cable that runs from top of your case plugged in to your board on a sata connector ?

Also the sata not the esata cable.

...and the power supply cable plugged into the PSU - you did that as well didn't you..?

I have this case also and use the Dock and it works no problem no drives dissapear when i use the Dock. Also i havent installed Rapid storage either.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I have uninstalled the intel software and will try out dock again when I have a spare hdd knocking about.

Also yes the cables are all connected correctly to my knowledge, although I will double check as this was my first build so maybe I made a mistake.

Will update in due course. :)

Have you looked in the bios. My Sabretooth has settings for each port, so whichever port your docker is connected too, you can click on "enable hotswap". This worked for me.
