Ok so I'm nearing my stove install completion :-), the wallpaper I didnt pick btw, anyways I`m going to tile the recess in brick style using the type of tile sitting on stove in pic, panasonic remote for scale :-), question is how do I do this?, are there any caveat?, I was going to begin on the rear centre and work from there?

second pic just for the heck of it

Proper 'brick style' would be to start from the ends (start with a full one on row 1 and a half on row 2) and work in, cutting the middle piece to fit.
However those are quite long and are not bricks so the correct way with tiles would be to work outwards from a centre line.

Oh and don't use standard tile cement and do score the **** out of that paint first to get a better bond.

ah, so pencil a centre line and start with one full tile centred on it?

pretty much, for the brick bond look draw the centre line, first row butt the left and right tiles to the line (allowing for the grout joint). Next row find the centre of a tile and align that with the line on the wall, and so on.
