Hi,

I was hoping to get some advise on a rebuild of my water cooled rig, I built it maybe 5 years ago now and I want to update it desperately.

At the time I had my cousin spec all the internals for me as he was up to date with available components and I know nothing about the hardware side of things :(

I'm re-using my Silverstone TJ07 case, and some of the water cooled hardware and drives and I've been recommended the following:

Asus V gene or Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H
Core I5-3570K Ivy Bridge Quad Core
8GB 1600Mhz Ram Kingston/corsair or other brandedness
Nvidia GeForce GTX 670 2GB or AMD Radeon HD7870 2GB
(Other option is Nvidia GeForce GTX680 2GB but he said thats not worth the extra money he doesnt think)
Antec or Corsair PSU if needed - (Might re-use my own 850w one I can't remember what its called and I'm miles from my comp to check)
Crucial M4 SSD 120GB or 256GB

I want to use the PC for gaming and a bit of 2D/Light 3D drawing work. I ideally want to runthe best games out at the minute on full graphics on my HD 22" monitor.

What would be everyones opinion? Am I being a noob with some of this

Help would be legendary!

Hey, thanks man!

In your opinion if, would spending a £1000 instead of £500 on hardware, see me wasting money? I mean, if I doubled that budget, would I get a noticeably better result with a computer that's future proofed a little more?

I really do appreciate the input, thanks!

You would be wasting your money, the 3570K is as good as it gets for a gaming PC and will still cope with other tasks.

Nothing is future proof (Intel Haswell is due sometime next year and changes the socket yet again).

Buy the items above (the board is expensive but has a good sound chip and overclocking features) and keep the money for things that last a lot longer (monitor maybe?) or swap the CPU and board yet again for Haswell when its released.

Thank you, I will be ordering all the above stuff over the next few days that you've recommended, and from those links of course.

Can I ask what graphic card you would recommend? It will also be watercooled if that sways an opinion...

Well I just got a Gigabyte GTX670 Windfoirce 3X and its really fast and really quiet, the problem is you will want a GFX card with a reference design PCB most likely so what ever water block you get will fit.

This might help a lot - http://www.coolingconfigurator.com/
