There have been a few threads regarding the quality and reliability of the various motherboards manufacturers recently.

Everyone has an opinion and their views very much reflect their experience. As such, it is very easy , when someone gets a motherboard and it fails to work, to then form the opinion that all motherboards from that manufacturer should be avoided.

This survey, checked the feedback from a major us retailer (they had most user feedback) from verified owners.

A couple of points to note:
  1. Most users write their reviews within two weeks of receiving the product and as such it mainly focuses on what works out of the box and not necessarily long term reliability.
  2. People tend to be more motivated to write a review when something does not work. In this survey you will see dis-satisfaction reviews often range between 20% and 30%. Of course, this does not mean that 1 in every 3,4 or 5 boards is bad. If this were the case none would be buying these products. Empirical data suggests people are around 10 times more likely to write a review if a product is bad rathers than if a product is just OK or absolutely great.
  3. A dis-satisfaction rate of 20% probably equates to an RMA rate of around 2%. So from the survey an expected RMA rate of between 0% and 3.5% may be likely. Someone at OCUK could maybe confirm if the factoring used is accurate or needs some tweaking.
  4. Sample sizes of less than 20 are not going to be very helpful.
  5. Sometimes more expensive boards have higher dissatisfaction rates and the look feel and apparent build quality does not necessarily reflect the satisfaction rates.
Taking the above into account the results of this review should be used for comparison purposes only and not be taken as a reflection of overall quality or reliability of a product.
