For months now i have been having USB disconnections problems, detailed here ; http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18447616&highlight=startername_mrdbristol

Have recently been in contact with Gigabyte Global Technical Services, and given them all the info from the thread regarding the issue.

They have sent me a 'revised' BIOS not on the Gigabyte site to try.

However this Bios will not install using the usual software methods i've used to flash the BIOS previously - @BIOS and QFlash.

After 6 days of messaging, I'm now being told to create a bootable DOS USB flash drive to test this new BIOS.

I do not have a USB drive and I do not have a great deal of expertise so 'boot disks' and 'flashing in DOS mode' mean next to nothing to me.

I know that an OCUK flash drive is only £6.49, but why should i have to spend more money to test something that might not even work ?

Am i being unreasonable here ?

EDIT: I should add that this is still under warranty.

I do not have a USB pendrive ( As explained in first post )

I've tried what i consider a reasonable amount of things to resolve this problem, but i draw the line at having to spend more money on something which tbh is unlikely to work ( I've already flashed the BIOS once already ).

Afterall, isn't this sort of thing what a warranty is for ?

If your car had an issue under warranty, would you accept being told that spending more money on some tools might fix the issue ?

I'll just use the 2 USB3.0 ports, which seem to cause no problems so far, and not bother buying a Gigabyte board in future.:(
 
I bricked an Asus motherboard using Windows flash method a few year ago, it was the main reason I bought a USB stick, I woudn't use @BIOS either too risky.

Not sure if it helps, but you can get a 4GB USB Pen Drive for £2 these days, my unbranded 1GB USB stick cost £9.99 back in 2006.
 
Its more a matter of principle now than the expense.

Problem has been going on and off for months now, tried everything at my end to solve it.

Gigabyte don't seem to want to recognise any fault with the USB2.0 ports, and would probably be happier if i bricked the board flashing the BIOS again - Then it would be my fault and the warranty would be void.
 
you're going to pay more in postage to send it back than getting a USB stick. its a crap situation but its not the end of the world.
 
As Gigabyte don't seem to recognise my issue as a problem, i've just recorded the problem.

As you can see , the computer is still running ( watch the monitor image ).

But BOTH the mouse and keyboard have 'died' and will not function - they simply flash on and off.

The only way to get them back is to unplug them then replug them back into different USB sockets.

This has happened on and off for months now, despite numerous attempted fixes. Yet Gigabyte have not once suggested an RMA :(

Thanks for the offer, but what are the chances that both the mouse and keyboard are at fault at exactly the same time ?

Its a USB port issue, but Gigabyte are taking some pursuading to accept this :(

I've asked Giga-Man to look in and comment.

I have already opened an RMA and recieved an RMA number - I will contact them now.

Hopefully this will restore my faith in Gigabyte, as the GGTS support has been awful.

Example ;

Day 1 - i filled out the spec sheet detailing exactly which board i have , down to a serial number.

After 12 days of telling me the flash the BIOS again, and asking me to provide screenshots to show that i was doing it correctly.

I recieve this ;

Thats the issue you are not able to update the BIOS. Also the non B3 version may causing the compatibility issue.

So it turns out the GGTS were giving me the wrong BIOS all along, and had i tried to force a flash would have probably done more harm than good !
