I've noticed that there hasn't been a great deal of love for tea on here for a while. So I thought that I'd recitfy that.

Ok so the point of creating this thread is for the good folks of La Cuisine and OCUK to gather and share their tea drinking experiences and habits. Everyone has a favourite brew, but what if you decided to try someone else's and loved it?

Often on here there are loads of useful tips about restaurants, wines and all kinds of other things but not really about tea....

So here goes:

My favourite supermarket tea is Yorkshire Tea. I really like the way it produces a really strong brew and I often have it without milk or sugar and I genuinely find that it wakes me up and also has quite a lot going for it taste wise compared to the other regularly available brands.

I've also just bought a load of loose leaf green tea which I'm currently working my way through.

My current favourite is a Korean green tea called Nokcha (which literally means green tea I'm told). This stuff is amazing. It's roasted and comes out with a really intense sweet and toasted flavour. Strangely enough it tastes a bit like a digestive biscuit. The colour of the brew is amber/golden and the aroma is heady and sweet with that toasted element really coming through.
It's also good for three infusions as well which is a plus. Brewed with water that is hot but hasn't been boiling for a couple of minutes for the best result.

I've also got a few more green teas to get through today which I shall review.

I'd say my best tea discovery of the year was Roobios tea. I was really surprised and taken with this stuff and love the natural sweetness of it and the slight sharpness you get from it. It's almost like a fruit or herbal tea in flavour I find. I've not had it with milk or sugar yet, but am loathe to do so as it is such a refreshing flavour and aroma (almost citrus- quite apt for this time of year and goes well with a mince pie!)

So good people- show us your teas. Give us some recommendations.

If anyone has got any good white tea experience or gunpowder tea then please do post!

I'm off for a brew :)

It's all about Ceylon BOP and FBOP - delicious stuff :)

Hard to find in shops though, so I buy it whenever I see it!

I had this stuff at the actual tea factory :p

Presume you're referring to Orange Pekoe? If so that is absolutely delicious stuff.

I'm now drinking a new tea called Master Xu's Gold Buddha.

It is absolutely sublime. It has an absolutely incredible depth of flavour and aroma. It's actually rather savoury and has a deep and roasted flavour to it. The colour of the liquid is rather dark sort of brown really. What's unusual about this one is literally just how profound the roasted flavour is to it (think savoury/biscuit).

Could you recommend a good 1 person loose leaf teapot? My girlfriend only likes a relatively small amount but all the teapots I can find are big!

If it's for one person, just use a tea strainer.

As uv said I'd go for a tea strainer. However, depending on the tea and how much ceremony is required, I'd go for one of the stone Japanese teapots. You can pick them up in good oriental stores (in London have a look in Chinatown or in the Japan Centre or in some of the Japanese stores dotted round Soho).

Otherwise if it's for a Christmas present you could go for a tea strainer and one of the tea for one pots (I know places like John Lewis, Debenhams and Whittards sell them for £10-25) which looks like a tea pot but actually is a cup and the top half is a pot.

At work it is standard PG Tips which is ok, however when I visit my parents mum has Twinnings 1776 (can't remember the exact year but it is one of their tea's) and I find that makes the best cup from a bag.

As far as loose leaf goes I don't drink any. I'm thinking of trying some different ones soon. I also want to try green tea as heard it is good for setteling upset stomachs etc.

Squark (I think) really knows his tea. Me im a teabag sycophant, but it has to be Punjana or Yorkshire, none of that Tetley garbage.

i generally get a pack/tin/box when my dad orders from Ringtons, not sure too much other then they are fantastic cups of tea, generally try different ones each time but ive never been let down

I drink a fair amount of tea.

Typhoo is my daily. Got some raspberry and raspberry leaf tea, both made by Twinings. Some Asda green tea with jasmine, which I love.

My favourite, which most may not have had, is Turkish Apple Tea. It comes in a powder, which is just dried powdered apple, and you just mix it with water. It is bloody lovely.

Yorkshire tea is my tea of choice. I sometimes like twinings earl grey.

I also like buying tea selections from places like whittard and just working my way through them.

Fruit teas I find almost universally cack - they're never strong enough!

Can we talk about herbal teas?

I don't drink tea or coffee except the occasional after dinner coffee.

At the moment I'm drinking standard twinings mint or lemon and ginger every morning in my flask on the train or I have a selection of white tea (gives me nightmares) pukka three ginger pukka three mint pukka after dinner and pukka before bed teas.

I don't like fruit teas they just seem like packaged soluble dust from supermarkets, I get two cups out of every tea bag and if I don't I regard it as cack.

I'm partial to wing yips ginger and lemon tea when I have a cold, it's more like shredded ginger and lemon rind and sugar, really perks you up.

I was in a Japanese restaurant last year and they gave me a three moon pearl in a glass cup, interesting and tasted fantastic

I'm all about Yorkshire Tea at home, or ceylon in the afternoon. It's Twining's English Breakfast in the office unless I've got nice Americans over when I'll go get some Yorkshire in (because they like good tea).

I can't stand Typhoo. Tastes like dirty dishwater:(

PG Tips / Tetley is the daily but I often mix it up with some loose leaf. We have a tea cupboard which is full so we always have something new to try:)

Btw to the OP please don't have milk and sugar with your Rooibos. It's much better without trust me.

I can't say I'm overly tempted to try Roobios with milk or sugar. Someone said that it's normal to have it with milk or sugar or both but having tasted it I can't really see what they would add other than masking the taste.

For the green tea drinkers out there- I seriously recommend Master Xu's Gold Buddha. It is unreal. Completely blows most other teas I've had out of the water. It's kind of expensive but my oh my is it worth it!
