My housemate has been using a 3.6ghz e5400 and a 4870 512mb on a 20'' 1680x1050 screen. It ran crysis 2 in dx9 pretty well however other games like bf3 held 35fps then it would stutter and the sound would loop and then the game would run smooth again. So on a real tight budget we got hold of a h61 and an
I3-2120 off a certain auction site. A 7770 although great performance/wattage just was too pricey for the performance it offered. We nearly bought a 650ti for £110, when I spotted a 2gb 7850 going for £120 on the clearance section on here.
So we took a risk and bought it. It came in a box without accessories (as described), just the card and a little bag of haribo
Upon inspection whilst unwrapping the card it appeared to have never been used, when you buy off the clearance you do have concerns as to why it ended up being b grade. ie Will it overclock well, is it faulty lol? is it voltage locked.
Well good news it voltage unlocked using trixx, max is 1.225v due to 7850 pcb, and the card scales to 1100 on the standard v-core of 1.114v max is around 1200c 1450 memory.
So I had to have a little play with the card in my 2600k system to see how it compared to my unlocked clocked 6950 940core 1375 memory.
Using 12.11 b11 for both cards this little card when clocked to
1000c/1300m equals my 6950 in heaven 3!! I havent had time to compare many games but in bf3 the 7850 seemed to provide greater average fps.
The max I have been able to run the card at has been 1200/1400 but that was on 12.11 b8. Here is a screenshot of 1150/1450.

The card is very short and runs cool, the fans are pretty quiet when gpu is at full load.
The difference in temp between the 2 cards when fully overclocked is
7850 63c max
6950 82c max
8'' vs 10 3/4''
For £10 more than a 650ti and with it being used on a monitor at 1680. This card really kicks butt. I can see why people rate it for a good bang for buck card. It mostly beats up my 6950 whilst probably using 50-70 watts less and running quieter and cooler. To replace my 6950 it would be a bit of a sidestep but the 7850 was fun to play with.
