Hey guys,

Finally got the moolah for the new TV.

The above can be found online for £599 right now...which, as far as I know, right now is the best TV that can be had for the money.

Can anyone convince me otherwise?

Requirements are, 50" (or around that size) and Plasma...not bothered about 3D or SMART.

Budget is £600.

TIA
Jake

John Lewis might matched to Tesco there might be a discount codes too
JL customer service so-so at times :(
Just got a 50 quid Voucher :D:D
JL warranty priceless

The extra money for the ST50, at the very least, is definitely worth it over the UT. Whilst the UT is still a great panel, it's not a patch on any of the top tiered three of the ST, GT or VT.

Save that extra couple of hundred quid for a while longer and get it, it's absolutely worth it :)

Now I'm into my sound/vision (evidently) but is it REALLY worth the extra few hundred? It's not asif we're talking £50 here...

If the UT is a very good perfectly acceptable panel, then the temptation to buy now whilst I have the money is certainly high!

How much of a difference are we talking? :)

Unless your viewing room is bright or you really need the 3rd hdmi input the UT50 will be fine. I've had mine for a week now and it's been fantastic. The only slight bugs I've noticed are, minor amounts of DFC and slight transformer noise. (Plasma buzz) Both of which are normal plasma issues that are also present on the ST50, but are pretty insignificant. I get no line bleed, no dirty screen effect and I cannot see the 50hz bug some people complain about. I posted some pictures of mine in the UT50 thread on avforums.

My front room isn't amazingly bright and it'll be used 90% of the time in the evening anyway, we are pretty much always out during the day time :)

The pictures of yours look stunning. Looks like at midnight I shall be ordering unless someone can convince me otherwise!

Are the Sammy's worth a look? :)

The only other things the ST50 has over the UT50 is built-in WiFi and the ability to record to a usb drive. (Usb recording us the only feature I would've liked) Those pictures were taken in the afternoon (apart from the 5th element) with my blind shut.

I've got the 2012 viera brochure if you want a picture of the tv feature comparison page.

Personally I wouldn't both with Samsung but my experience is only limited to one model. Initially I went for the PS51E6500EU but my first one and its replacement had very noticeable buzzing in all conditions. In the end I settled for a 50ST50 (the UT50 didn't seem to be available at the time otherwise I would have considered it). Although it does have the expected plasma buzzing as Kei suggests it is nowhere near is bad as the Samsung. It is actually only really noticeable in certain scenarios such as where a very static screen is being displayed.

Thanks for the offer but thats ok thanks. I'm sure the UT50 will be adequate for me, don't need Wifi as I have a LAN cable waiting for it (forward planning ftw!) and USB recording I'll never use!
Decision made I think.

I'm really sold on the better filter on the ST range, mainly because I want something that performs better than my S20 with low ambient light (uplight lamp in corner of lounge).

Does anyone have first-hand experience comparing the S20 to UT50 in terms of how grey the screen looks when turned off?

This is the worst i get with direct light from my window which faces the panel directly. The gloss black bezel is more reflective than the panel. When off, the panel looks like a very dark grey, similar to a CRT. (Mine seems to look subtly green vs the bezel when off, but there is no colour cast is present when on)

In the dark it looks like so. (grain/noise is from the camera)

It's flexible trunking from Ikea called montera. Don't know if you can still get it though as its been in the loft for a couple of years. Some shelving is going in front of it once the weather lets up enough that I can get it built.

Shall check it out, also Finding Nemo is on the list, Wall-E, How to Train your Dragon, Inception....

Ahhhhhhhh I won't be busy tomorrow night at all :D
