Do Corsair make anything that works properly? PSU coil whine?

I know they have their faithful fans and perhaps I'm just unlucky but hand on heart everything I've purchased from Corsair has either failed on me or is made out of paper mache.

This afternoon I fitted a Corsair CX750M PSU. Now I'm fully aware it's not up there with an AX1200i or your trusty Seasonics but I didn't expect this -

What the hell is that noise? Coil whine?

I get the distinct impression Corsair started rebadging decent PSUs from decent OEM such as Seasonic, built a good reputation for their range, then started sourcing from less well regarded OEMs.

Nasty sounding that one.

Had a TX750 V2 that failed in under a year

But then again they are well known for their good customer service

I knew the CX range are manufactured by CWT (as are most of the TX and HX ranges for that matter) and I knew it wouldn't rank up there amongst the greatest PSU's but I had a budget and wanted a modular PSU so it seemed like it was worth a gamble.

However I've now got the hassle of an RMA (not with OCUK, they had no stock) so I hope the video is an aid to those considering buying a CWT/Corsair PSU in the future.

My TX V2 OEM was Seasonic ;) Although I'm at uni and were some power problems but not sure whether this is what killed it

I've started to lose faith in Corsair now as well. They went through a phase where everyone raved about their PSUs. When I bought, they happened to be modular, fair price, not too loud and the HX series had nice low profile (flat) cables.
I got a brand new HX650 from the members market here on OCUK. It was only brand new because it was a fresh replacement from RMA someone was selling on. It's about 3 years old and the fan has started to click and make a constant noise.

I have RMA'd and I got sent out a brand new HX650. I'm annoyed because they have changed the design. The fan grill protrudes from the PSU case chassis just enough to make it difficult to mount in my case. They have also changed the connectors that the modular cables plug into on the PSU as well! It took me absolutely ages to route the cables in my PC neatly and I was hoping to just swap the PSUs out. Now I can't, I have to take everything out and swap all the cables.

The Corsair customer service is good and the warranty periods nice and long. But it's annoying to keep having to swap out parts that won't last. I hope this PSU does not have coil whine or any noise at all frankly. If it does I might ask for refund and buy something else.

I don't purchase Corsair products due to encountering problems, mainly PSU related. I now use an XFX 850w PSU which is brilliant.

I rate XFX above corsair for PSU's now, only thing letting XFX down is their RMA process can be a pain in the **** apparently. First choice is always Seasonic for me though.

TX750 V2, bought it in the MM and it`s brilliant. Really quiet, even when gaming and never seems to get hot. So I can`t knock Corsair, although their newer models don`t seem to be as reliable.

It's made by Seasonic so what do you expect, I had one before too and now another Seasonic unit ;)

Corsair did have Seasonic as the OEM for the whole range a few years ago. However due to the range becoming bigger and Corsair offering more "value" based items within their PSU catalogue, of course they are working with more OEM's to build their units. The CX range is aimed at a budget audience so of course the quality of the units will not be of what the AX range offers for example - pricing is reflected in this though.

However with the coil whine on the OP's video I would suggest you RMA that back to us (if you bought it from us), it should not make that noise and we will honour a replacement for you.

The return rates for Corsair are still very low (these include DSR/unwanted too - not just faulty). for example.

CX range = 2.5%
CX-M range = 1.75%
GS range = 2.2%
TX V2 range = 2.8%
TX-M range = 3.2%
HX+ range = 2.6%
AX range = 2.1%
AX i range = 1.1%

Compared to OCZ which is around 4.5% overall.
Antecs PSU return rate overall is around 1.4%.
The OcUK range is around 5%.
Seasonic retail products are around 2% overall.
Silverstone PSU returns are around 1.8%.
Thermaltake is about 5%.
Xigmatek is around 5.6%.
XFX is around 2.3%.
Zalman are good with less than 1% back overall.
Enermax is at 0.4% - amazing!
Coolermaster is around 3%
BeQuiet is around 2.6%
Akasa is around 2.4%

Hope this all helps.

Originally their range was just as big with Seasonic, they just seen an opportunity to make a bigger profit margin, and taken it.

No, their range didnt have anywhere near as many. The CX, CX-M and GS are all new to the range. What where the previous versions?

They had HX range / TX range and a single CX 430w, all Seasonic. But they have much more now.
