Cooling Configurator claims that it's a reference 7970 PCB.
Some owners confirm this, others say their card is 6+6 pin and therefore NOT a ref 7970 PCB...

Looks like I will find out when I get them in that case ... tri-fire will get a bit toasty and noisy on air (but doable), CF will be perfectly fine so no rush really.
 
7970 pcb? nope! EK is wrong, and drizmod is correct (as well you should trust him, he has the card). there's another person on this forum who bought the card expecting a 7970 pcb, only to be disappointed. and on the msi forums the same thing happened to someone else as well.

the original twin frozr uses a 7950 pcb, the "v2" uses a 7970 pcb (i have this), and the new "BE" which you bought uses a 7950 pcb, though whether it's reference or not i don't know.
 
Apparently, a few early boost cards came on a 7970 pcb hence some of the confusion and conflicting reports.

oh i see. sorry, i didn't see your post up there - i thought people were just making assumptions based on the EK configurator, because the only reports i'd seen were of 7950 pcbs. it's confusing enough when you have 3 named twin frozr models that are basically identical, without then having variations between batches! some of it just sounds like cutting corners tbh... (but then i am fairly cynical about this kind of thing)

I think the only way to play this safe, is when you get the cards, take the cooler off one of them and take some pics and we should be able to figure out what block it will take :)

You could also forward the PCB image onto EK so they can update coolingconfigurator too.
 
Bought one a week or so ago, thinking about WCing and it has 6+6pin. Maybe we can have a thread for people to post pics of their PCBs and state their purchase date. Then the data could be collated properly. Or MSI could just tell us what the score is! Like if your serial number is a certain way it's a 7970 PCB, otherwise it's a 7950.

The serials and/or full model name should help us tie it to a PCB layout, but I agree, we need to see some PCB's from these cards, its quite unclear what uses what :)
 
8+6pin is usually the giveaway, but it's best to do a bit of googling as well as check the EK cooling configurator which is usually right, but not always.

I think EK got it wrong this time because they probably had an early sample of the TF3 boost. MSI have since changed it in later batches it seems.
Of course, that's just my guess :)
 
Don't want to void warranty by taking off the cooler if there is doubt I can get a block for it! If I can't its going back ...

While I'm not sure on the exact 7950 pcb spec that card uses, I can tell you that if you buy an MSI card from OcUK, you're ok to remove the cooler without affecting your warranty.

As long as YOU don't break it, you're covered.

So either have a good google or take it off and post pics :)
