Hi guys,

My original yate loons, must be 6 years old, are beginning to make a bit of a racket in my case... I've dusted the case, wiggled the fans but the knocks and rattles remain :)

It's time for some new fans! I need approximately 5. Ideally with 3 pin adapters so I can use them on my fan controller to vary their speed and they need to be fairly quiet to start with.

Pretty flexible on the cost but within reason.

Thoughts?

For me it'd be this:

If you're bothered about aesthetics and a good performing fan - Corsair AF120 Quiet Edition (non-pwm)

If you're not bothered about aesthetics - Noctua for the higher end price or cheap as chips the OCuk/Zaward Golf.

Don't get the Noctua's,
if you want such high end fans go for Gentle typhoon instead.
Rounded up here :)

If you want a aesthetic look, get some fan grills :)

Wow! Are those stats correct though? 11dB and 71.54 (not sure on the unit :)) airflow. For less than £7 - seems too good to be true for the price?

probably not, there is no set standard for how to test - noise in particular, it could be at 10cm or it could be at 10m

mind you, 71m3/h is only 42cfm, so they should be quite quiet

Interesting link but I would have liked to have seen what each of these fans could do at lower speed settings.

The reviews mentioned that at 800rpm they don't have a significant difference (6db), so it doesn't matter which to get.

It is around 1000rpm or more where GT fans stands out from Noctua's

I myself have used Noctua and changed to GT after reading this review, GT fans are whole lot quieter at the same rpm IMO (i use around 1000 to 1850 depends on idle to load)

And Noctua F12 has the annoying motor noise which I personally hates

YOUR BASKET
1 x OcUK Tech Labs - Zaward Golf III Fan 120mm ZG3-120TL TRIPLE PACK £8.72
2 x OcUK Tech Labs Zaward OEM 120mm Golf Ball Fan £2.99 (£5.98)
Total : £14.70 (includes shipping : FREE).

Best fans for general use, when on a fan controller they work best as they can be silent. Even at the full 2000rpm I would not call them loud tbh. Great static pressure and air flow.

Really? Because the one I have, at 2000rpm it's epically loud. I'd say louder that SP120s on full tilt.

Around 1000rpm though, it's pretty quiet.

Thanks for clarifying that.

I'm unsure what to get now, the GTs or the Kaze Jyuni 1200RPM fans.

Both would be regulated using a fan controller.

Gentle typhoons.
And go for 1850rpm versions (not 5400) if you have a fan controller :)

The slipstream are not really for case fans or rad fans IMO, they are there for users who need low profile fans (12mm).

E.g. A while ago I need a low profile 120mm fan to cool my HDD in the 5.25" bay. Slipstream worked well although I grabbed a GUP Japan from eBay later on :D

+1 on the Noctuas if you dont care about aesthetics.
Corsair AF's are a good choice. You can hear the performances but you cant with the quiet edition.
Gently typhoons are really for radiators. No need to have that extra noise due to the high SPM.
I hear bitfenix spectre pros are good as wel.

Gentle typhoons any day of the week. I'd go with the 1450rpm version as:

1. They are quieter
2. They are in stock

I've got 5 1850rpm versions in my computer at the moment and have a 6th one on the way as they are that good i haven't found any other fan that can compete. I'm using them both as case fans and radiator fans as they are particularly effective with mesh and dust filters.

None at any setting on my fan controller. Got them sitting at 1000rpm which is quieter than the enermax TB140 in the psu and the 3 hard disks.

Righty. Ill be getting some of these myself. Just paranoid is ive literally read positive and negative words on these on a 1:1 ratio.
