Hi Guys,

I'm trying to find my highest Base Clock (BCLK) and have hit upon a brick wall and wondered if anyone can give me some good tips :)

System
  • MSI Z77A-GD65
  • I5-2500K
  • Samsung Green 8GB DDR3 (2x4GB)
  • PowerColor PCS+ 7950
  • Intel 520 Series 240GB SSD
  • 2 x Seagate 500GB HDD
  • Corsair TX750 PSU

Following instructions from - http://www.masterslair.com/determining-your-maximum-bclk-base-clock-frequency-i7-i5-i3 I can boot into Windows and run SuperPi and Prime95 with the following settings -

  • BCLK = 10300
  • CPU Ratio = 16x
  • Memory Speed = 800MHz
  • Memory Timings = Auto
  • VCCIO = 1.07
  • VCCSA = 0.95
  • VCore = 1.20
  • VRAM = 1.348

I can also boot into Windows running memory overclock OR CPU overclock combined with the BCLK but NOT both at the same time. With both overclocks combined the computer fails to boot and reverts to safe settings.

CPU Overclock
  • CPU Ratio = 39x
  • VCCIO = 1.07
  • VCore = 1.25

To get the computer to boot windows with memory overclock I had to increase VCCIO and VRAM voltages.

DRAM Overclock
  • Memory Speed = 2196MHz
  • DRAM Timing = 11, 11, 11, 28, 1T
  • VCCIO = 1.19
  • VRAM = 1.65

I managed to get it to boot with both overclocks once by dropping the CPU multi to x38 and increasing VRAM to 1.6705.

I didn't touch VCCSA as most things I have read on t'internet said that this doesn't help ?!?

Have tried increasing VCCIO to 1.25 and VRAM to 1.70 but still no joy.... ideas on a postcard please :)

I'm aiming to try and hit BCLK 10360 or 10600 if possible....

AFAIK with Sandy Bridge, it's generally advised to leave BCLK at 100- SB chips don't really like BCLK overclocking- just stick with changing the multiplier. Less of a problem with IB systems, so I hear...

I thought this was an overclocking forum?!? :p:D;)

Any words of wisdom from 8-Pack or some of the more hardcore overclockers?

Thanks for the compliment... Everthing I've seen for SB overclocking says leave the BCLK at 100. And I learnt all I know from this forum- is it now suddenly all wrong because I'm not 'hardcore' enough?

Chill - wasn't personal :)

Got it stable at 103.60 currently - the reason to increase the BCLK is to get faster memory speeds, also some people say it can get you a higher CPU overclock than just using the ratio alone e.g. x39 at 103.60 is 4040.40MHz instead of x40 @ 100/101.

Lots of people do BCLK tweaking and yes people say not to touch it but there is a reason it is tweakable! Lots of people in the 8 Pack challenge thread with overclocked BCLK -
