Hi,

I have been trying to decide on a few builds the last couple of days but after a lot of suggestions from the forum this is my FINAL! build :)

Thermaltake Chaser A31
Gigabyte Z87-D3HP Motherboard w/ FREE Be Quiet! SR1 Pro CPU Cooler
Intel Core i5-4670k 3.4GHz RETAIL S1150 Haswell + FREE GRID 2
MSI GTX 660 Twin Frozr III 2GB OC
Corsair Vengeance Blue Low Profile 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 PC-12800 1600MHz
Seagate Barracuda 1TB SATA 6GB/s 7200RPM
Corsair GS600 2013 Gaming Edition 600W Power Supply

Managed to get it to around £714 thanks to some help from the OC Customer Services :)

Can't wait for it to arrive now :)

All I need to sort now is a nice blue keyboard and mouse lol.

Although you appear to have settled and ordered, the 660, in my opinion was not a good choice. A 7870 or even better a 7950 would have been better, you would really have got some great performance for the money.

You could have re-adjusted and with an extra £50, got something similar to this:

YOUR BASKET
1 x HIS HD 7950 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (H795F3G2M) £233.99
1 x Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail with FREE Grid 2 PC Game £185.99
1 x Gigabyte Z87-D3HP Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard + FREE Be Quiet! Shadow Rock Pro SR1 CPU Cooler! £107.99
1 x Thermaltake Chaser A31 Gaming Windowed Case - Black/Blue £79.99
1 x XFX Pro 650W Core Edition '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £59.99
1 x **B Grade** Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (S (HD-257-SE) £45
1 x Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (BLS2CP4G3D1609DS1S00CEU) £43.99
Total : £771.04 (includes shipping : £11.75).

I already spec'd him with the 7870XT which can match a 7950 when OC'd. The 7950 is on par with a 670 so obviously tops the 660

I expected someone would have already. Still, 660 was not a great choice.

I agree bud. He obviously wanted that case though. If i put a 1TB HDD in my spec it's priced very close to what he went with but it's much better to be fair....

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail with FREE Grid 2 PC Game £185.99
1 x VTX3D HD 7870 Black Boost Edition 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £173.99
1 x Gigabyte Z87-D3HP Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard + FREE Be Quiet! Shadow Rock Pro SR1 CPU Cooler! £107.99
1 x Corsair Carbide 300R Mid Tower Windowed Case - Black £69.95
1 x Avexir Core Blue Series 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C10 2400MHz Dual Channel Memory Kit (AVD3U24001004G-2CI) - Blue Light £67.99
1 x Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST1000DM003) HDD £52.99
1 x Thermaltake Smart Series 530w Modular '80Plus Bronze' Power Supply £49.99
Total : £722.99 (includes shipping : £11.75).

He can change his order but I doubt he will lol For a mouse and keyboard it's hard to spec something without a budget. If he doesn't want to break the bank.....

YOUR BASKET
1 x Logitech G300 Gaming Mouse (910-002489) £24.98
1 x OcUK Black Gaming Keyboard - With Free Gaming Mouse Pad (5105GU) £10.99
Total : £41.95 (includes shipping : £4.98).

The mouse has LEDs for it's stored profiles and yes Blue is an option. The keyboard is pretty decent for the price and he cops a free mouse mat too

I have put a post in the Pre-Sales thread regarding me order as I am getting around £36 refunded back onto my card so I asked to be upgrading to this:

I would still recommend the 7950, but as Hono suggested, the 7870 should do it. Personally, find the extra for the 7950, I guarantee you will not be disappointed!! You do have the onboard graphics if you save the cash and get it in a few weeks time. Haswell's IGP should keep you going for a bit. It does BF3 very well.

Not sure why you went with the 660, the 7870 is the same price, £170-179 ish.

I take it that card is the one that beats the 660 Twin Frozr III hands down?

It's not a standard 7870, it's a Tahiti core so is very closely related to the 7950 but is much cheaper. Once you get it up and running we can help you through overclocking both the CPU and GPU.

Changing the GPU made a lot of sense fella :)

I doubt he will be disappointed with the MSI 660 OC...it is an awesome card for the price....it runs everything I throw at it perfectly and in 3d to boot and it looks great.....runs cool as well.....3 hrs of wot or cod and it hits 45 degrees max....idles at 25...even today and its a warm day here....just my tuppence worth :)

1 x MSI GeForce GTX 660 OC Twin Frozr 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £179.99
1 x VTX3D HD 7870 Black Boost Edition 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £173.99
Total : £353.98 (includes shipping : FREE).

The 7870XT is a little cheaper although granted the warranty is shorter. Once you do the overclock which is dead easy you have amazing performance for the price :D

8 Pack did a comparison of the 7870XT vs a 7950 which you can read HERE

I was getting the Twin Frozr III for £160

Hmmm... I just don't wanna keep screwing this guy around in the OC Pre-Sales forum so I gotta decide.

From the sounds of it I am better off getting the VTX3D HD 7870 Black Boost over the Twin Frozr III because it is a better card, and if I overclock the 7870 it gives me the performance of the 7950.

But if I spend an extra £60 then I get the proper 7950.

I don''t want to go the extra £60 as my budget was £650-700 to start with so I have already pushed it.

But if you are telling me an OC 7870 Black Boost is better than a Twin Frozr III OC by miles then I will sort out paying the extra £14 for that..

Does that sound right?

Lol I can't keep jumping up so looks like I will swap out for the VTX3D HD 7870 Black Boost Edition.

How loud is the card compared to the MSI Twin Frozr III?

Thanks for the input guys, just aswell they are shut on a sunday I can post that in and get it changed over before dispatch.

Sorry to keep asking but a stock 7870 Black Boost and stock Twin Frozr III, does the 7870 still beat it without OC and also does it sound really loud.
