Are there any Kia Sportage owners here? Looking at getting a new car later in the year and really like the look of it.

I'm sure there will be a lot of people here who hate it but for the price it seems like amazing value (looking at the basic Sportage '1' for 17,495). The base model comes with everything I want (cruise control, A/C, etc) as well as having a bit more space for my bike, camping kit and useful for general furniture moving and the like vs a compact or hatchback.

Any thoughts?

Also quite interested in thoughts on this.

We are considering getting a larger car later this year/early next year, and at the moment other option is a Superb Estate. The Sportage is looking pretty interesting - especially considering the warranty - but the lack of engine choice is a bit frustrating. If it had a comparable engine to the 1.6 DIG-T thing in the Juke I'd be far more interested...

We wanted a larger car for family and i looked at these types of cars, but in the end got a 57 plate auto petrol Honda CRV EX with every toy you can conceive under 50k miles,FSH, 1 owner for I think around 13k. Really was mint condition and I love Honda built quality and reliability . I think the list on this one was coming on 30k with the spec

All leather, pan sunroof, ac, adaptive xenons, bluetooth, adaptive cruise, brake assist, sat nav, dual climate, electric seats, reverse cameras, park sensors... And tons more i can't remember

I believe the sportage is only 2 wheel drive if that matters... Not that you are going to off road in these soft roaders... But knowing you have 4wd when conditions get challenging is a nice feature

The new Sportage comes in both 2 and Awd, engine dependent iirc. The cheapest one will almost definitely be 2wd though.

I'd be a bit concerned about the smaller engines ability to haul the thing along too, it's a pretty big car. They look decent enough and get a good write up though so if that's the kind of thing that floats your boat it's worth having a poke round one.

Had a Kia Sportage 1.7CRdi "2" for about 28 months now and can't fault it.

It's a lease car but used for family of 4. Great car, plenty of room, it's only the 2wd version mind you. Good fuel mileage.

Servicing at local Kia place is £140/£150 once a year, tyres £100 a pop (did 22k before needing 1st set of Kumho's)

Only ever had a single issue with it when something happen when wife was driving and one of the rear suspension arms broke. (wife thinks she hit a hole in the road but not sure!) However, Kia picked up the car, took my wife and kids home, garage called me 1 hour later to explain that the part was on back order so would be 4 days to get it. Not a problem, they didn't have any spare courtesy cars but Kia Customer Services had a hire car from National hire on my driveway within 2 hours.

Kia had never seen this issue before but all fixed under warranty, zero cost to me and zero hassle as well - 1st class job from the garage and the customer services.

Otherwise - can't fault it, car is due back in feb 2014 and I would seriously consider leasing/buying a Kia sportage again without a 2nd thought. 7 year warranty as well remember.

Not towed with one.

They do at least do it in a 2wd model now. The old Sportage 4x4s used to lunch diffs if you didn't rotate the tyres. So much so that they re-called those that chose the 20" wheels to fit smaller ones. Most of the 20" rims were then sold on ebay to owners of 2nd hand Sportages. The new one hasn't had such issues in 4x4 form though.

It's actually a much cheaper car than you think, a fair bit of the price is for that warranty. If you approach knowing you're going to use the warranty at some point, you could probably do worse.

If you get the diesel and it starts to smoke, deal with it sharply, they have a daft set of injector seals, if the first fails it will start filling the rocker cover with diesel, and will smoke like a bonfire.
