htc one or galaxy s4

S4, HTC One has a lot of negatives imo (no SD card, rubbish camera, slower, LED screen vs Samsungs super AMOLED 1080p screen).

These were just a few items which made me buy an S4, and I'm so glad I did.

I owned an S3 previously, and I can say 100% that the S4 looks so much nicer, and no longer like a plastic toy. :).

I heard that the 16gb s4 only has around 9gb free because of the software with it , seen pros and cons with both but then the power of the s4 is winning me over

Power is one thing that is pretty much equal on both.

Differences are camera, storage, screen, speakers, nav buttons, notification LED and design + build.

Then there's ease of root and romming.

Rubbish camera? Maybe with the very early software that most of the reviews based their opinions on but with the newer software it is excellent and has a few stronger points over the GS 4 i.e.

- zoe mode, works better, you don't have to select the mode before hand and can apply a number of edits afterwards rather than just the one
- macro shots look better, more detailed and a more natural look
- video recording is better overall with the HDR mic., wide FOV, OIS
- captures more consistent usable shots due to OIS and very fast shutter and even more so when using zoe mode, absolutely superb for people with kids and/or pets
- better in low light conditions

Only areas where the GS 4 soundly beats the one is HDR photos, bright landscape conditions and when cropping/zooming.

Slower in the benchmarks yes, but in real world usage from my experience with both devices (both with the latest updates and with all the smart stuff disabled on the GS 4), the one feels smoother and faster throughout by a decent bit.

Screen is personal preference, not everyone likes SAMOLED and rather have LCD for the more natural look etc.

Storage is personal choice as well, about 26GB usable internal storage VS 9GB + SD slot

HTC one has superior speakers.

GS 4 has superior NLED.

GS 4 is easier to root and flash stuff etc.

Gs 4 has slightly better battery life + removable battery.

Design and software is personal preference. One has superior build/perceived quality but the gs 4 is more comfortable in the hand imo. Software wise, essentially more feature rich overall i.e. smarty stay, scroll, multi-tasking window etc. VS a more clean/minimal, unified feel version of android with some amazing apps i.e. the browser, gallery/camera app.

I prefer the front ans side design of the GS4 but prefer the look of the back and finish on the htc one :p

The screen saturation on the S4 and One are pretty much the same now Nexus. Both as natural as each other. No more overblown colours on S4 SAMOLED.

I have both and I'd say I prefer the HTC One by far. Prefer the screen, build quality and I love the Zoe Highlights feature of the camera. Also no Touchwiz.

Yeah the colours etc. are pretty similar but I still find the htc one to just have a more natural look  i.e. looks closer to my dell U2331h monitor.

Have tried the different presets on the gs 4 and that helps a lot if you want the natural colours but it is just doesn't have that same look as the htc one in my eyes  Not sure how to describe it really :p :o

IMO the GS 4 feels smaller and easier + more comfortable to use.

It is actually slightly smaller overall compared to the htc one, only 1mm wider than the htc one iirc.

But it all comes down to your hand size and shape :p

You will never get a straight answer on a thread like this.

Some people will blindly follow HTC / Samsung and not even consider that the other may be superior in some way.

I have the HTC one. Having had both for a period of time i kept the HO as it worked better FOR ME. I found some of the stuff on the S4 gimmicky and found the HO better for what i used it for, but others have found the opposite.

I'm talking Standard default preset on the S4 - not prof/movie/dynamic.

Yes I'm confused at your post :p

But why does it matter if you have 1gb free or not? You have an SD Card slot. Granted the HTC One is nice in this sense as you have 1 storage area, and its a nice size, but having an expandable storage is also nice!

It's going ok apart from post#3 :D

What's that meant to mean? I weighed up both before buying, and tried both as well.

I said I prefer the S4 because I do, and what was more beneficial to me.

It's a forum, if you're scared of actual opinions, maybe you shouldn't be on one ;)

Very true, but the HO memory is unified. If you stick a MSD card in the S4 you could run into confusion / difficulties as to where stuff is stored or installed to.

I like the fact that when i plug it into my PC i am presented with just a single 'drive' to manage.

I'll agree to that!
