Daughters PC PSU just went bang.
Took out plug top fuse and was smoking. This is a brand new build and we will source a new PSU but am wondering what the likelyhood of damage is to other components in the system.

Any one had a similar experience?

Many years ago I had a PSU that just went pop on turning on after being off for a couple of weeks following a holiday but this one went off with a bang, sparks and smoke!

Just hoping nothing else got fried......

My Enermax went bang a few years ago and did not have any issues :)

If you have a quality PSU you should be ok.

If it was a reasonable brand then hopefully the over-volt protection would have prevented any damage to ancillary equipment. I had 2 Seasonics and a Corsair go bang over the last 10 years and on each occasion nothing else was fried

It was a system I built so no come back apart from the supplier. The unit was a Powercool Modular 550W PSU 80+ Dual 12V V2.2
High Efficiency with 80+ Certification
nVidia SLi and ATi Crossfire Ready
Dual Rail Design
Multi-core CPU support
Advanced Thermal & Accoustic Design
Intel Form Factor ATX 12V V2.31
Low noise cooling fan system.

I was actually looking at this Corsair CX600 as a replacement as I thought they were a pretty good make.

Any recommendations for a 600W PSU max £55-60?

The only brand that has never let me down is Antec, but it's anecdotal buying advice at best. All power supplies have the potential to break.

If the PSU was reasonably well built (IE not a budget 5kw for £20 job), it should have had protection for the connected devices. It's one of the things you tend to be paying a bit extra for in good brand PSU's.

When I had a PSU blow on me a few years back it didn't hurt anything else.
