Need a spec for under £400 - (£500 max) {EXTENDED TO £600}

hi guys im looking to get a desktop, cant stand crappy notepad any more, just need a bit of help really, im not really looking to build one myself as the savings are not much from what i have been seeing and im not very clued up with pc's these days, my last desktop i had was over 10 years ago :( lol

im looking to get a desktop for pure processing power, im not interested in gaming/gfx/internet i simply want it for working on my pictures/video editing, and i do astro photography which is a ram killer! i have tried stacking thousands of pics on this crappy 1gb ram notepad but it just kills it, ive got so much data from my astro photography and normal photography but just cant work on them and its driving me mad :( the programs ill be using mostly are photoshop/lightroom/various astro ram eating programs lol, so im after a nice pre built one for processing power,

i know nothing about processors, but ive heard the more cores the better lol and of course 8gb ram, pref 16gb but dont think ill get 16gb ram on my budget will i?

anything you guys can do to help me out a bit will be most helpful, ive got £300 saved so far so a bit more saving time needed to get to £400-£500 but i can see the light at the end of the tunnel and can not wait lol

all the best and speak soon

martin

oopss sorry, yes i will need O/S and monitor but if this budget will be just for the tower then i can add the monitor and OS at a later date as long as ive got a half decent tower lol, would like space in the case to add extra ram/SSD in future too if possible

not sure if this would be a good option? would it be able to be overclocked? i been looking on the bay at some 6ghz setups for around £300 but probably too good to be true at them prices...

id be interested buying 2nd hand also if anyone is selling anything

I doubt you can overclock that one ... at 300 quid your options are going to be severely limited :( It would work for some basic photo editing, but eventually you might want to get something a bit beefier, certainly for video editing.

Buying 2nd hand you can't do around here yet, unfortunately. You need a 1000 posts first to access the members market, and outside of the members market trading isn't allowed.

This makes sense, wait until you have a bit more. That way you get something to suit your needs and will last a bit long. £300 is only going to get you a short term fix.
In the meantime watch a couple of video tutorials, as building yourself means you get more for your money.

thanks mate but i cant see where it becomes more cheaper building your own? i added up all the pieces on OC and it came to £30 less for building it myself and that would be minus warranty which a pre built comes with, unless im donig something wrong i dont see how building your self gets you more for your money :(

going to watch your vid link now any hoo :)

All the components come with warranties. And if an item is faulty, you only have to return that and not the whole system.

that video looks WELLLL complicated lol im never going to be able to build one lol, ill probably give stuff an electric shock and ruin my stuff b4 i even get started lol, i think im best just saving as much as i can and getting the most expensive pre built one i can :( prob around £450 if i can wait that long without the money burning a whole in my pocket lol

Mobo spec says IB, but would be worth asking OCUK to make sure it does not need a BIOS update first.

That Foxconn needs a bios update for IB.

mhhh interesting, so them links would that be all that i need to shove inside the case to have a decent working pc? this budget was just for tower so i can take off the monitor and add to a better processor maybe or motherboard? maybe usb 3.0? maybe i could build a pc lol.....

edit, also i see that monitor has a dvi connection, will i be able to plug that straight into my pc when i do get a monitor, dvi is like hdmi right
