Hey so my colleague would like a new PC.

His budget is £600-650, an OS IS required.

No special case or special requirements, peripherals and screen not needed. Just trying to get the most from the budget.

I was thinking trying to get an SSD and a secondary storage drive, to keep it fast.
What do you think you could squeeze into this?

Is there an option for overclockers to prebuild it?

Thanks

This will be a home computer, which will be used for downloading itunes/music/movies, he has children so they may want to run games (minecraft and small games) I would think a medium range GPU would be fine. The machine will not be gaming specific.

This is what I have so far, may need tweaking and changing. Any ideas?

Mobo is out of stock atm, so you would need to check with OCUK when they expect it back in. Ssd is sata II but still faster than a hdd. The 7850 makes it a decent little gaming machine. Slightly over budget.

I think that system is going to be let down by not having an SSD.

I would get a small SSD (due to budget) for the OS

Change your RAM to something a little cheaper:

That's about it really. Without dropping your CPU or GPU down a notch the price isn't going to change that much from what it is at the moment.

The only other option would be to drop your HDD drive to something smaller to save some money.

(Talking about OP's system here)

I would`nt pay £70 for a 64GB ssd when a couple of quid extra I could get a 120GB instead. This would save £20.

Total : £54.92 (includes shipping : £2.48).

I would also change that Psu( Crusade 650W) out for starters and get a decent branded unit.

I like the AMD build, I've tried changing a few parts, and would like to repost my basket.

I'm sure this has been asked before, I can't seem to find it on the forum but how do you post your basket in that format?

That will make for a very nice every day/gaming PC. Can always add a cooler at a later date to OC the Cpu for more performance as/when their needs change.

I'd get your post count to 100 for free P&P, then something like this:

YOUR BASKET
1 x AMD Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 8320 Black Edition 3.50GHz (Socket AM3+) Processor - Retail £124.99
1 x Asus M5A97 EVO R2.0 AMD 970 (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard £89.99

1 x Xigmatek Asgard Pro Gaming Case - Black £32.99
1 x OcUK 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £15.95
Total : £650.86 (includes shipping : FREE).

Decent size SSD, good GPU for the OP's needs, decent 550w PSU in case the kids want a more powerful GPU later on, CPU/mobo will support a decent OC if you get an after market cooler.

Could get a 1TB HDD if it's needed for £10 extra.

The cheaper MSI board is ok if you want to drop to an FX-6300 and won't overclock (except maybe a tiny bit). With the 8320 I'd never go for anything under the Asus Evo.
