8320 will murder the 4440 unless the 4440 is unlocked and you can clock it hard.

Just know that you will need a good AM3+ board and cooler for the 8320. There are some Corsair refurbs doing the rounds. I bought a h100 for around £44.

Refurbished h100 from Ocuk.
The 7850 2GB.
FX8320.

Decent combination, lots of price/performance there.

But you *can* do more with your 600 quid budget, at sub 700 (660) quid I've managed an i5 4670K, GTX670 system with 8GB RAM and a 120GB SSD for a kids chrimbo build.

+1 your pretty spoilt here but try not to go cheap on components like PSU, mobo just to squeeze a better cpu/gpu in.

OK as it was £38.39 at a competitor thats all.

Yeah I know I got mine from them :D

OCUK didn't have any in stock at the time. I got a H100, then within 24 hours they were out of stock for about a month. Second stock was when OCUK started advertising theirs :)

Is it mainly for gaming?

Wouldn't a FX-6300 and a 7870 give better performance in most games for the same money?

If I were to take the 6300 I would want a 7950 TBH.

But yes, your theory would be correct. It's better to have more GPU grunt.
