A proper resolution with a decent yet responsive IPS panel. :)

Answering myself here, but from the manual pdf:

"This.monitor.supports.full.HD.(480p,.576p,.720p,.1080i/p).video.content.from.game.consoles,.DVD.players.and.other.consumer.video.devices.via.HDMI"

(ignore the periods, seems to have been added during the copy & paste from the pdf)

And PWM backlighting?

Some information about the panel.
----
Source ASUS Support

The PWM frequency is 12.9 KHz, but no % brightness provided,
The panel is LG LM240WU8, but not sure about -SLA or -SLD.

I am glad ASUS willing to tell the detail information about their product.
I send another mail for more information, will update if I get more.

At least VS24AH is a flickering free(by using high PWM frequency) monitor and is cheaper than U2412m.
There is another monitor called VS24AHL in ASUS website.

I assume since it's a US forum, the link is allowed, mods please feel free to remove if not.

I bought a U2412M, not saying it's the best thing ever, but even though a few years old, a quality panel is still a quality panel. So we'll see how it goes here when setup properly!
Although the age did put me off at first.

But - from my limited understanding - you lose the wider aspect view and 16:9 monitor would give you (in games)? ie: Wider ratio = better FOV?

It'll depend how the game calculates the fov.

If it's done horizontally then 16:10 will give you more angle - you'll have more vertical view compared to 16:9.

If it's done vertically then 16:9 will give you more angle - you'll have more horizontal angle compared to 16:10.

Fwiw, the extra vertical resolution is nice for general use.

From what I've read, this monitor is almost identical to the VS24AH-P, which has mostly excellent reviews. The main difference is the sturdier adjustable stand.

I've pretty much made up my mind that I'm going to get one. Just have to wait for payday...

I've seen lots of anecdotal review from US sites, but as the US price seems to be roughly £:$ it's difficult to know what to read into that.

It's easier to be impressed by a cheap monitor doing a good job? Or is it simply a good monitor? :)

Wish one of the big sites would give it a proper review...
