Guys,

I'm a little concerned that I've messed up here. I bought this card and I currently have an OCZ 600W PSU with a 6+2pin and a 6pin power cable. Will this be enough juice for this card or should I upgrade. Reading the box it recommends a 750 2 8pin...

I have an 760 i5

In terms of wattage, unless you're running some mental extreme system you'll be fine with 600W. They always exaggerate wattage required. Not so sure about the power cable's though. I'd guess that there's some way round this though, no doubt someone will be along to give you clarity.

Don't upgrade yet.

Thanks for your reply Durujhistan. I've been reading around and some people are saying 600 should be fine as well (RealHardTech).

As to the connections I'm really confused :) the box says 2 8pins, the website says just 1 8pin and both here and RealHardTech are talking about 8 and 6pin.

Another problem I've got now is because I've switched over to a bottom mounted PSU case I can't get the 8pin cpu connection to fit with the new card. I'm hoping an Akasa 8-Pin 30cm PSU Extension Cable will sort my problem.

Well I've picked up a 6pin to 8pin converter. Will report back how it works out.

I've read that under load it eats up ~350w which is ~100w more than the 5850 that it will be replacing. A hungry card! I should have done some more research... damn impulse buys :)

The i5 760 runs ~150w at load leaving around 100w for everything else. Does that sound doable? What's the worst that can happen.. :)

350w would be total system load, not the card itself. Any higher figures you see are probably done running furmark.

You will be fine.

I run a 7970 matrix which is one of the most power hungry cards around, requires 2 x 8pins, on a 550w seasonic and it never breaks a sweat.

You'll be fine.

Thought I'd post a follow up thanking you guys for your advice. The card seems to be running sweet with the setup that I have.

I picked up a cheap watt meter and with the games I'm playing the whole system takes in around 300watts. I ran FurMark and it shot up to 500watts and 83 degC (3853 points if anyone is interested). I wouldn't want it running like that all the time :) When it does get stressed it is a noisy card but I'm happy with the performance gain I'm getting over my old 5850.

The box for my Asus R9 280X DCII TOP recommends a 750W PSU, but then it also says with 24A on the 12V rail... Only a cheap and pathetic "750W" PSU would have a spec like that! My 600W PSU can output 48A on the 12V rail.
