So, how small a minority are going to have at least one of these on their Christmas list? :D.

Fully unlocked Kepler monster. Without question has the potential to be the fastest card on the planet, no question about it

EVGA GTX 780 Ti KingPin Edition
GeForce GTX 780 TI KPE is something I heard about before the launch of the original GTX 780 Ti. Back then it was an acronym for Black Edition. KPE simply stands for KingPin Edition. Vince “k|ngp|n” Lucido is an extreme overclocker known for breaking many world records in GPU performance. EVGA teamed up with him again to make a new product, which basically is a GeForce GTX 780 Ti on steroids.

What is so special about it? 6GB RAM, no TDP limit and unlocked voltage. That’s why it’s refereed as a ‘new card’. At this point I don’t know if KPE is EVGA’s exclusive or is it actually a new model card from NVIDIA itself. Maybe that’s why we haven’t seen MSI’s GTX 780 Ti Lightning yet? Nevertheless, it’s good to see NVIDIA finally allowing AIBs to launch new models without pointless restrictions.

EVGA GTX 780 TI KingPin Edition will be released in December.

I was expecting this to be a non event but hat's off to EVGA. I would put money on this KPE being an EVGA exclusive (as Kingpin does all his clocking with EVGA cards). No TDP is awesome and interested to see the volts allowed straight off the bat.

Good info Mr Frosty.

Edit:

Oh and inb4 the price whingers :p

Oh crumbs :eek::D

I must admit I'm probably to whinge a little as the sting for 3 of these is probably going to be too much this side of Christmas. Not only that but being exclusive - what does that mean for availability and numbers. Could this be a limited run of 500 for example?

I don't think it will have 6gb, the extra vram is deadweight for benching.

I did think this also mate

If you read the article very closely I think it is slightly misleading. They are not saying it has any of the things mentioned they are asking themselves. I may be wrong though.

Having said that it could be just a bog standard 780ti Classified (if you can call it bog standard) with Kingpins logo on it. This EVGA could do anyway as he does bench their cards.

I'm sceptical too, but the way they've worded it is as though:

That bold would imply to me that they've heard from the grape vine and are happy to announce it as fact, but they've no actual source for those facts.

Poor journalism if it isn't true but wouldn't be surprised. If anything at the moment it's just put a spanner in the works for people waiting on the traditional Classifieds.

I can not see Kingpin endorsing something that goes against the principles of extreme overclocking (6gb of vram).

Having said that a fist full of dollars is a great motivator.

I don't think kingpin's opinions have much say on the fact.

There's a reason all these "Benching cards and mobos" can also be used at consumer level; they must be consumer products also, otherwise they won't sell.

I bet you could make a card with 1GB vram that would be a monster for benching, but why would you, no-one would buy it. And it's not worth making.

Even though lightnings are "benching cards", they still have use for consumers too, they must be.

Like Kaap says, money talks...

It does seem odd so close to the launch of the Classified if this is a separate card. As out of the box and apples to apples the Classified might have the edge in benchmarks due to the elephant in the room we keep talking about. Bigger chips are slower. You'd have to have reviews pushing the TDP up there to give a fair comparison.

I guess how much slower is yet to be seen if the article is right.

I presume it's due to them having a larger work scope, remeber they'll also be making a 290x lightning. So the lightning team will be busy with two projects.
