Na you don't need to delid X79 CPUs.
The only reason why you needed to delid the IvyBridge and Haswell CPUs is because they ain't soldered (which is the main cause of high temp).
I thought for Haswell they moved back to soldering the heatspreader ?


Haswell & Ivybridge use paste.
Haswell is worse though because it has extra surface components on the PCB to make delidding extremely risky. Even Jokester managed to kill a 4770k.![]()
