hi guys is there any point in delidding 1 of theses processors before i commence on new build.

done my 3770k with no problem.

thanks

Na you don't need to delid X79 CPUs.

The only reason why you needed to delid the IvyBridge and Haswell CPUs is because they ain't soldered (which is the main cause of high temp).

Even if it was possible (it's not because SB-E/IB-E are soldered) they don't run hot so there's no point in delidding.

thanks for the info wondered why i hadn't seen anything about temps etc.

glad i never tried before asking.

I thought for Haswell they moved back to soldering the heatspreader ?

Haswell & Ivybridge use paste. :(
Haswell is worse though because it has extra surface components on the PCB to make delidding extremely risky. Even Jokester managed to kill a 4770k.

Bought my 4770k pre-delidded from the MM lol, I'd never have the spuds to do that to a £220+ CPU myself.
