How quiet are the newer after market cooled 290s in comparison to a stock non reference cooled version with a fan speed of say 70% ?

Ive read some reviews saying they are not necessarily that much quieter, is this the case?
Thinking of selling my 290x on MM and buying a newer after market cooled saphire

they arnt that much better tbh, only slightly

you would be better off keeping current card and buying a third party cooler for it,accelero ect, those are very silent in comparison

Don't know about the Giga, MSI and Asus but my Tri-X is really quiet.

I can't hear it over the fans in my case, well maybe a little but not by much. The Asus DCUII 7950 I had before it was louder and I could hear that the second it started to get hot.

? My MSI Gaming is near silent, what are you talking about? My previous 7950 Twin Frozr was ridiculously loud compared to this 290 Twin Frozr I just bought.

Look at any review on Reference vs AIB coolers, there is a massive difference.

The AIB Cooled 290/X is as cool and quiet as any GPU.

Anandtech says the saphire 290 tri-x is quieter review here

Hexus.net says there is hardly anydifference between saphire 290 tri-x and the reference version, infact only 4db, review here

Legit reviews say it is much quieter (ok this is the 290x version and not 290) review here

in this video done by hi tech legion it seems quiet to me - review here
skip to 4.17 mins for noise tests

I don't know what Hexus were doing with their card but the Tri-X is like 20db quieter than a stock cooler :p

I can confirm everything that is shown in the hi tech legion vid.
The fan speed only goes to a maximum of 40% while gaming. I've never seen it go above 40% anyway and the max temp I have seen while gaming is 74*c. Thats after a couple of hours playing The Witcher 2 which puts 100% load on the GPU nearly 100% of the time.

Thanks, much appreciated.

Bloody online banking is `currently undergoing maintenance` so cant check if my refunds have hit the account yet.

Yeah done this before on mine to get good fps etc using the without powerplay support and fixing ccc powerlimit to 50 as afterburner doesnt set it in there at present.

Need a much quieter experience and i am going to purchase 2 Saphire 290 tri-x cards soon as my pennies hit the bank which they aint so far, will be monday now i think, put my 290x up far sale now in MM.

my 280x sapphire tri-x sounded like a dyson hoover when gaming, x3 smaller fans are noisy, compared to larger fans in the asus direct CUii and the Msi Frozr, unless the 290 has a different version of the tri-x cooler i'd be wary.

I have an MSI Gaming 290X and I find it quite loud when gaming. It's not as loud as the reference but the fans still ramp up a fair bit and I'm running it stock.

thought about doing the same but im not that botherd about noise, now im looking at your mm ad thinking should i go crossfire but not a good time for cashflow at the moment

I keep being told different things where the noise of these coolers are concerned, really wondering what to do....

Again this does not sound great to me, or not what im after in terms of noise ratios ....

im debating going green, there seems to be so many issues with cooling and noise

but then again i wont be able to mine lol

which drivers? the beta are supposed to add quite a few rpm to the fan ramp

I have tried both Beta and release both the same. The card gets quite hot so the fans are ramping to cool it down.

Tbh I was expecting a bit more from the card I'm not massively impressed so far. Considering all the Hype around Mantle, AMD and BF4 it runs considerably better on a 780 for me.
