Hi again.

So I thought I'd test out some PC gaming.
Bought a game from steam, but when I ran it, as soon as the window pops up, my PC would make the hiss/screech/highwhine sound. Sounds like the GPU I think.
When I clicked on the window to drag it, the sound stopped, until I let go and the sound came back.

In game settings, There's an 'Frame limit' option that was set to off.
So I switched it to ON. And the sound seems to have gone.

Does anybody know what it was?
Is it a serious problem or does it sound like the frames were causing the GPU to hiccup?

I set my screen resolution to what the game prompted me for too.

Any ideas would be great!

Yup, too many frames can cause that. May have been the PSU making the sound? I know I've had PSU's that whistle like kettles when running Kombustor or other programs that stress max frame rates.

Just narrow it down by opening ur pc case and listening for it individually... if its a good psu make you might be able to get it replaced otherwise just live with it and with vsync on.

Just tried it and im 90% its the PSU.
It's about 2 weeks old, ive just bought it!

If its bothering you contact Corsair support and they'll replace it with a new one.. as long as you provide purchase info etc..

I wouldn't really purchase low end corsair anyway.. cx is notoriously not excellent

Hey, it's not that bad! :( I run some stress tests on my CX600M and it's just fine! :D

lol shivy well what you just stated was that it works! haha :D I would class a great psu as something that had low noise and delivered clean power (+ modularity) dont really care about anything else other than wattage because in gaming rigs you never use it long enough for efficiency to factor in a difference

Try running 3D Mark, you'll notice in the lower end scenes, your PSU will screech, but come Firestorm, it'll be quiet.

Can be annoying at times, but FPS limits do the trick!

It's called "coil whine". Search for it, there are loads of thread in the forum. Limit frames, switch on v-sync, try separate cables from the PSU, or try running in with something like Heaven or Valley benchmarks.

After that, they alternative is to try different combinations of hardware.

Corsair PSU's are renouned for coil whine. I have a TX 850 and it only whines on system startup until everything is warmed up. Quiet as a mouse once i play games or under any other stress...

Alternatively, just buy a decent PSU and save yourself all this hassle. ;)
