Ok guys Im not a total noob but I feel it now! My 4770k will not hold a clock under load (I don't mean prime, but just hard use). It will blue screen and say windows had a problem and must restart.

I even can just leave everything on auto and bang in a 41 multiplier and it will do this! I can try it with 1.3v and still blue screens! I lock memory down to spec at 1.5V

Spec is:

4770k
Asus Z87-K
DDR3 Corsair 1333mhz 9-9-9-24
Samsung 840 Pro SSD
7950

Any advice on how to start? I know simple things people say, but wont even do 41 on AUTO! Temps are ok as Thermalright cooler. 78C full load at 1.3V. Runs absolutely fine at stock 3.9

Cheers

Sheldon

Have you tried flashing to the laest bios. The first couple updated compatibility and stability. Download the latest to a usb stick and go into the bios and use EZ-Flash which is in the tools section.

Just update to latest bios as it will include all previous amendments,
Then test at stock, if your getting problems run memtest, if all is well and you start to OC and your getting bsod click the link in my sig for info.

1333mhz RAM on Haswell is loosing you a lot of performance. Haswell loves bandwidth I would be thinking about upgrading that RAM.

Which board exactly is it?? Latest Bios. Use RAM slots nearest CPU.

Thanks guys. Upto 1103 Bios now, I was on 0309.
The board is Asus Z87-K.
Memory is happy as locked it to 1333mhz again, I understand what you are saying, how fast should I go? (I know as much as I can afford) but bottle neck must be my GPU really.
Ive put all on auto, bar:

Memory 1333
Mem voltage 1.5v
Sync all cores at 41

Shall I run memtest in wiindows or that dos version you can have on a CD (not done mem test for years)

There is a USB bootable version on there site whch is very straight forward to use.
Ideally you want some 2133mhz+ sticks, as 8pack said Haswell likes it ram fast ;)

Bloody hell... I was thinking 8gb of 1600mhz would do! (Oh well start new job next week).
Im only going to get 8gb as I only game and fold and usual office and internet (I presume thats sound thinking?)

How long shall I run mem test before your all talk to me again? (he he) Its done 15min in USB booted mode and all good so far. (Il run it tonight overnight but would like to play now)

Running it over night should get through 8 gb a few times. A handful of passes with very few errors would be more than enough to draw the conclusion that the RAM is fine.

If you have access to the members market there is a 8gb kit of Samsung greens if nobody has grabbed them since this morning for £42. It has to be the best performing memory for the price. Haswell is a beast for overclocking memory and i have my 4x 4gb sticks of Sammy greens running at 2133mhz @ 9-10-10-21-1T with only 1.5v. A lot of the second and third timings have also been tightened too. Most of the 2133mhz and upwards kits on sale now have timings of cas 11 or worse.

Balls! Been running fine for 2.5 hours fine! Then suddenly blue screen! That was at 41 multi. Dropped to 39 now and see if this will work.

BSOD guide shows X101 so needs more v core.... its on auto????

Il put up to 1.26 as should easily do 39 at that surely?

Vcore up now to 1.26 and at 39 multi.
Ive left V cache on auto.... good idea?

you shouldn't really be needing 1.26v for x41 multi, what is your LLC(loadline calibration) at?? set this to high
cpu current capabillity?? set this to 160%

Sammy greens are here but i am not sure if he has sold the third set or not. They are coming up quite often and i got a set last week for £40.

I will post my settings for 4.4ghz after tea to see if they work for you. My board is the next one up from yours so the bios should be more or less the same.

Failed at 39 multi at 1.26 Voltage! Im so lost!
Blue screen code is 0x00000101 so low V core! Im so lost!

Oki back to stock everything and AUTO everything so 3.7 Ghz. See if that lasts till bed time. Will run memtest over night

few steps
1. clear cmos
2. in bios set ram to xmp
3. leave everything else for now apart from...
4. change multi 1 at a time 40, 41, etc, test each time in windows with cpu under load and note the voltage used in cpu-z
