Hey guys. I'll be doing a blind playthrough of Fallout: NV with all the DLC and i'm wondering what mods to get, i'm also wondering what the DLC missions are as i'd like to leave them till last and just crack on with the main story.

Please bare in mind that this is my 1st time so ideally i'm just looking for texture packs and maybe some optional mods which will be listed below. If any one here has any experience modding F:NV, could you tell me if my list is correct please?

Mandatory:

New Vegas Script Extender (NVSE)

Fallout Mod Manager (FOMM)

NV Stutter Remover

Mods:

I'm hoping these will be enough for a 1st 'vanilla' playthrough.

MTUI

Nevada Skies

NMC's texture Pack

Interior Lighting Overhaul

Optional:

I'm considering these but i'm wondering if they'll detract too much from the vanilla experience.

Project Nevada

Will the above mods work with Fallout: NV 'GotY' edition? Are the mods i've selected good for a first 'vanilla' playthrough?

Would appriciate any input, many thanks guys. :)

To be honest with you I'd make my first playthrough a completely vanilla one without any mods installed, it's a far more stable game than FO3 and doesn't really need any mods to make it playable. I'm not really a big fan of texture packs as too often the creators have given themselves an artistic license which strays too far from the developer's vision for the game.

I can't answer your DLC question sorry, haven't played any of the NV DLC myself but I'm just about 20 hours into a brand new save game with the Ultimate Edition so if you add me on Steam we can have a chinwag about them when we finally get around to playing them! From what I understand so far you need to be a decent enough level with some decent gear before you take them on.

The only MOD i cant play without anymore is Conelrad. Its a radio extension and fits within the game theme perfectly.

^^ As above, I play mostly vanilla. Its supposed to be a desert after a nuclear war, not a lush oasis.

A player home mod is a good idea. With weapon racks, storage crates and crafting tables etc.

A body replacer is also a good idea, hi res corpses.

The main game was patched so you can continue to play even after completing the main quest (and seeing the cut scene).

It does have an impact on dialog the order you do stuff, but its not that different.

All 3 of the DLCs are started by following radio signals on the pip boy.
Some are available from the start, some are triggered as you level.

For me at least the difficulty of the enemies in the DLCs was ramped up from the base game.
For the most part you can travel back and forth from DLC land to main land, but TBH during the DLC there's no point and once you have completed them again there's no point. Your better off putting on a decent set of armour, abandoning your companions, gathering/repairing your favorite few weapons, stocking up on ammo and then heading in. (IIRC at least one of the DLCs strips you entirely anyway).

You might also want to read up on some of the DLCs as if you play through the main game (fully exploring / side questing) and complete the main quest. Then try to do the DLCs. There is a good chance you will be pretty high level and will have specced / perked your char a specific way. For me this made one of the DLCs super hard to begin with.

Be mindfull of Caravan. Its realy easy to play and easy to master, thus easy to make lots of cash.
With Gun Runners installed this gives you access to some awesome weapons, making the game super easy.

In terms of "fun" its well worth using different companions at different times and also doing there companion quests.

I used to be subscribed to Gopher but honestly I don't have time to watch his tutorials as they're about half an hour long each.

I think i'll just play it vanilla for my 1st go anyway like I did Fallout 3.

Use the first two lists you mentioned(mandatory and mods)but without ILO, and use the 4gb Launcher(nvse) and Project Reality.

For your second(inevitable) playthrough, use Project Nevada and NVEC and that will be enough.

Its supposed to be a desert after a nuclear war, not a lush oasis.

Off topic, but how can there be so much dead grass etc, but no live grass?:p

Cheers guys i'll just get the texture and text packs then.

Can you tell me the names of the missions for the DLC please so I don't start them by accident?

What I mean by that is if you have Fallout 3 GOTY Edition you basically start the game and it dumps about 5-6 random quests onto you which are the DLC ones. If Fallout NV is anything like 3 it should do the same, right? If that's the case i'd like to know the names so I can avoid going to said area and starting the DLC before I complete the main story.

Use the mod called 'delay DLC or something. Just search delay. It changes it so that you need to get close in order to hear the signals and they don't all start at the same time.

For example, for one DLC you get a radio signal telling you to go somewhere, with that mod you only pick up the signal when you get close or the area, and you lose it when you get too far away. I can't remember the names of the missions though tbh.

Essential imo.

You can't really start them by accident, when trying to start a DLC quest it will give you a little dialogue box asking if you want to proceed and giving you a recommended player level. Depending on the DLC there is also a warning about not being able to return to the
Mojave until you're done. You could also just pull the Pip-Boy up at the start of the game and put the name of the available quests into the Wiki.

If you're really that worried you can just disable them from launching by unticking their boxes in the launcher, then re-ticking them when you want to play them.

Wrote them down just in case, thansk guys.

Played about 2 hours and had one crash while entering a casino near Primm. Loading the auto save crashed the game upon loading, luckily I had an auto save just outside the door.

Wouldn't be a Bethesda game if it didn't have bloody crashes every once in a while! :p

Anything by Puce Moose (search his name on The Nexus). I love his Fallout 3 adventure mods, and his Tales of the Burning Sands mods (now a complete collection) for New Vegas is excellent, with no impact on the game stroy whatsoever. If you have the Gun Runners Arsenal DLC, I also recommend Gun Runners Arsenal - The Right to Bear Arms, a mod also by him. this gives NPCs access to GRA weapons and ammo.
