Howday folks,

Looking to spend £250 (cheaper the better) on the components to replace my HP Proliant Microserver Gen7.

Current issues with the server are simply that it's power doesn't meet my requirements any more since I'm transcoding on the fly, from Plex, to two rooms these days.

As I've already got an ATX case I'm looking to buy just:

  • Motherboard - Decent upgrade paths for components
    • Onboard Video - HDMI out would be awesome though
    • Onboard sound - I've found without a sound card this can sometimes cause issues with transcoding stuff without drivers etc so helps negate this issue
  • CPU - Looking for something that will specifically let me transcode two 1080p files at once - if possible on the budget (which is why upgrade paths are important)
  • Memory - 8GB should be fine
  • PSU - Noise and low power consumption is the main factors here
  • Fans - Old case has some crappy fans to good to replace these I think

Ideally if the thing was silent that would be a massive bonus.

What say you?

EDIT: Should say that HDD's are coming out of the old server and I'll be using Windows 8 (although I use it as a "server" I literally run Plex and a TeamSpeak Server so having Windows 8 on there is great for me tinkering with bits and pieces without any hassle)
