As already mentioned the DD Black Edition cards are amongst some of the best looking on the market with the all black/chrome twin fan cooler and XFX LED. :)

Now with the RMA terms which I have negotiated with XFX which are serviced by OcUK who is number one in customer service, you can buy with confidence. :)

Looks great. How do they compare in cooling to the Tri-x or PCS+? Especially in crossfire?

Not tested but looking at the design I doubt the cooler as the ability of the Tri-X or PCS+, the design and ability looks more similar to the MSI Gaming.

Great work OcuK and XFX. Love the look of that cooler and no matter what, £260 is a cracking price for a 290 card. Great to see the warranty has been sorted too, that was the main hurdle here.

Gibbo it would be great if OcuK could test the card and see what the vrm temps are like. :)

We don't see the point, OcUK nor XFX are claiming these as big overclocking cards, they are not, that is MSI Lightning, Sapphire Vapor-X and Powercolor PCS+ territory.

The XFX cards are designs for out of the box performance and really good looking, they are not warriors of overclocking or cooling ability, what they delivery is fast out the box stable performance and fantastic looks.

If we get time we shall test one of course. :)

Theres plenty of reviews for it online. Its a decent cooler but nothing special. If you are into aesthetics then this card may be a good choice for you

XFX seen the light I see, I think they needed to do something like this to stay afloat and rebuild their reputation.

That price is absurdly low *glares at 2nd hand 780 that cost more*

Shame the 290 doesn't have the glowing xfx logo from the 290x but who cares at £260

Is there anyway of knowing which ones have glowing logos and do not as it does not seem so straight forward?

Ideally we want to stock the glowing ones, everyone loves a bit of glowing LED bling in their case. :D

Here's a review of the XFX 290 DD

http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/foru...741-xfx-r9-290-double-dissipation-review.html

The XFX R9 290 Double Dissipation is a good card with an excellent cooling solution but other than its striking good looks, there really isn’t anything that stands out here. While ASUS, MSI, PowerColor and others have their shticks, be it drastically upgraded components, high clock speeds and adaptable overclocking software, the DD uses a standard PWM design, features reference frequencies and needs a third party application for overclocking. As a result, without the distinctive, aggressive pricing structure and lifetime warranty XFX has been known for, their card sort of blends into the background.

Maybe normalcy is a good, safe place to be but there’s only so much a brand’s reputation can accomplish, particularly when their solution’s cost is perfectly aligned with cards that offer more. For example, for the same $520 spent on the Double Dissipation you can buy an MSI R9 290 GAMING, ASUS’ R9 290 DirectCU II OC or Gigabyte’s R9 290 Windforce OC, all of which have higher clock speeds, manufacturer-specific tuning applications and PWMs that are supposed to offer better longevity. Sure XFX also has the Black Edition which takes care of the clock speed part of that equation but it commands a $25 premium, making it even more expensive.

There are plenty of reasons to recommend the XFX R9 290 Double Dissipation. It is fast, runs cool, has the capability for some amazing frequencies when overclocked and is very, very quiet. We just can’t help but feel that XFX played it a bit too safe with this one since there’s not all that much to distinguish it from similarly-priced competitors. With that being said, if rebates and other incentives are used to lower its cost, XFX could have a winner on their hands in the price / performance segment.

So close to holding out for new cards but at £260 I think I'll have to bite. In all fairness I've held onto my BFG GTX 285's for a hell of a long time. Time for team red.

Well, not many of us in here like XFX GPU's, but, with OcUK service, at those prices, holy ####!

I'm ready to recommend XFX GPU's.

As long as that policy sticks, it makes XFX viable.
Although XFX use stickers on their screws (Which is why years ago I couldn't WC my cards)
I take it that Bailey etc are aware of this new policy?

If it won't stick we will stop selling them, as long as we sell them, the service is in place for OcUK. :)
