Hello,
My current i5 is going in my sons room so I need a new build.
I have a SSD, a 6 gb/s hard drive ready for it and windows 8.1.
Getting ready to order the parts and so far its having:-

Intel Core i7-4790K 4.00GHz (Devil's Canyon) Socket LGA1150 Processor - OEM
Cooled by
Raijintek Themis Direct Contact CPU Cooler

Gigabyte Z97X-SLI Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard

TeamGroup Vulcan RED 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLRED38G2400HC11CDC01)
Is this low enough to fit under the cpu cooler ?

SuperFlower Golden Green HX 550W "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply - Black

Graphics wise I am looking at a £200 card which one of these is best value
Powercolor Radeon R9 290 PCS+ OC 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
Or
Palit GeForce GTX 960 JetStream 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (NE5X960H1041-2060J)

This for a drive
Asus 24x DVD±RW DRW-24F1ST SATA ReWriter

As you can see I am after a red and black theme to go in a windowed case,

I cannot for the life me pick a case to show it off in ?
So i need help with
Is the power supply man enough ?
Will the ram fit under the cpu cooler ?
What to go with for graphics at around £200, I may go a bit higher if its a no brainer ?
What to house it all in, must be windowed and take a dvd drive ?

Any help or pointers would be much appreciated.

The 290 is the better (faster) card.

The 550W PSU is man enough.

The RAM fits under the cooler.

Here is a case with a window - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-135-NX&groupid=2362&catid=35 - but takes external dvd drives only (USB ones)

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i7-4790K 4.00GHz (Devil's Canyon) Socket LGA1150 Processor - OEM £269.99
1 x Powercolor Radeon R9 290 PCS+ OC 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £199.99
1 x Asus Z97 Pro Gamer Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £103.99
1 x NZXT H440 Mid Tower Case - Black / Red £89.99
1 x SuperFlower Golden Green HX 550W "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply - Black £59.99
1 x TeamGroup Vulcan RED 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLRED38G2400HC11CDC01) £50.99
1 x Be Quiet! Dark Rock Advanced CPU Cooler £49.99
Total : £841.43 (includes shipping : £13.75).

How much budget do you have?

Man that case is lovely,
Can you point me at a usb drive to use with it ?
I picked the gigabyte mobo to go with a red theme is there much advantage to the Asus one ?
looking to build it end of next week so would the ETA on the card be an issue ?

Thanks for replying too
Dave

Okay Asus it is.
Last question hopefully the original cpu cooler is red and will be in full view is it up to the job of a mild overclock on the cpu ?
Or is there a better red one under £50 ?
Dave

Ordered, hoping for a few packets of haribo too :)
Thanks for the help much appreciated.
Dave

The red one Raijintek Themis Direct Contact CPU Cooler.
Need to sort some lighting for the case next.

Well everything but the arctic silver turned up, used paste included with cooler instead.

And it lives

Couple of clicks in the bios and rams at full speed and cpu does 4.5 ghz :D

Many thanks to Stulid

This is pretty much the same as mine, bar the case and cpu.

Sweet looking build, i love them cases, I'm very tempted to buy one, well after the competition ends, who knows i may have a chance.

I'd move your SSD over to the left personally though.

The bios on them boards is so easy, the cooler I'm very pleased with, temps max of 70 with a 4.6 OC.

Had to buy a usb dvd writer but it installed windows fine and its not that inconvenient really.

Funny you should mention that, black screens from the off, just posting in graphics section before I contact the shop.

I bought the same card before xmas and had nothing but trouble, thought it was PSU so upgraded to 750W. but then found out some of the memory on the cards causes the screen to go blank etc and card needs replacing. So maybe look into that?

Trying a few things first then I will contact the shop.
Shame as its a bargain card.
