heres my list, looking for arguments for and against it....am i missing something obvious.

Asus Rampage V Extreme Intel X99 (Socket 2011) DDR4 EATX Motherboard
Intel 5820K 3.30GHz (Haswell-E) Socket LGA2011-V3 Processor - OEM
EVGA GeForce GTX 970 Superclock 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
Corsair Vengeance 16GB (4x4GB) DDR4 PC4-21300C16 2666MHz Quad
Corsair Graphite 780T Full Tower Case - Black (CC-9011063-WW) Corsair

i want DDR4 as id be a fool to spend over 1k on older DDR3 when DDR4 is the way forward.

thoughts?

You'd be unlikly to notice the difference between DDR4 and 3 outside of benchmarks.

What do you use the computer for? X99 is aimed more at workstation needs than gaming/general office work afaik.

currently im still running on 1st gen i5 750...... :( :( :( stock its 2.6 but to keep up i have it at 3.7 i currently have the corsair H80i but its wasted on this chip.

power wise im ok i have a coolermaster 750W gold plus, drives i have a samsung 840 evo, couple of smaller SSD's, with a few mechs for storage.

GFX i have a MSI Twinfrozr II GTX580.

i think by far my bottleneck is my cpu/mobo combo and im ****ed off not having ever owned an i7, i think those parts will tie in my current decent parts to make a cracking system thats on DDR4 future tech. i dont wanna buy DDR3 as that soon will be pretty inferior.

having never owned a gigabyte board im weary, ive always been an asus fanboi for mobo's

i love asus's onboard fan control-ability. i need a good review of the SOC board to see it in the flesh..maybe i'll google it

'i think by far my bottleneck is my cpu/mobo combo'
depending what you use your pc for I'd say the GTX 580 is the bottleneck

i wasnt expecting that tbh, i think the fact that my CPU is OC by 1.1 makes it be default the weakest component by far, however i concede the point that my gaming will increase drastically with a new card.

The price difference between the X99 Rampage and this one - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-520-GI&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=2875

Gets you a GTX980 instead of a 970.

What drives, cooler and PSU do you have?

thinking about is mate i think your totally right.....who needs wifi, bluetooth and all that crap...the SOC board seems to rock, whats its bios like?

Its solid, its a board being constantly worked on by overclockers and is setting world records at HWbot.

P.S I accidentally ruined your post as hit edit rather than quote.

so as it stands my cart now looks like this

Asus GeForce GTX 980 DirectCU II OC Strix 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics
Intel 5820K 3.30GHz (Haswell-E) Socket LGA2011-V3 Processor - OEM
Gigabyte X99 SOC Champion Intel X99 (Socket 2011) DDR4 ATX Motherboard
Corsair Vengeance 16GB (4x4GB) DDR4 PC4-21300C16 2666MHz Quad Channel Kit - Black
Corsair Graphite 780T Full Tower Case - Black (CC-9011063-WW) Corsair Graphite 780T

pretty good change tbh...

how many 4pin fan headers does the SOC have?, reason i ask is i want to pump that 780T case with as much cool air as possible
