Keeping cats away

Hi guys,

I live in an end terrace of three houses. My next door neighbour has two cats which are fine but the end neighbour has two cats which are a less trained. They have taken it upon themselves to specifically hold in their bodily waste until they are able to get onto my land and then dirt all over my raised flower bed, new gravel driveway and some pathways I have grass seeded. They usually wait until they can look me in the eyes when they do it too.

Anyone have any suggestions to keeping the cats away? I don't really want to use those sound generators as my immediate neighbour's cats are fine and they would probably hear it as they are only small gardens.

Thanks

I have this issue too. Every time I dig over part of the garden it gets targeted. I use:
  • Rocks (as in building rockeries, not throwing them at the cats - I never catch them at it)
  • Netting - they don't seem to want to walk over it
  • Lavender bushes - my latest idea and unproven

I'd love a dog, but I work during the day so that's not very fair.

That water gun thing looks amazing! But... I like my immediate neighbours and I think they'd be a little upset if I set that up haha.

Nets could work but they'll be on show. Heard coffee beans and lavender are things they don't like. Coffee has the benefit of keeping slugs away too.

Orange peel or coconut husk bark is a good start. Cats hate the smell of citrus, and the feel of the husk bark. Should sort your flower beds at any rate.

Lion Urine/Manure
Cat Repellent Pellets

Both worked well for me, however you have to re-spread the manure and pellets after any rainfall.

I've heard planting certain types of Lillies can help keep them away.

Tried all of the above, none worked either at all or for any length of time.

If your garden is walled/fenced in completely then I can recommend spike strips. (Can also search for p-r-i-c-k-l-e strips but word comes out as sweary on forum. Anyway, you can get these elsewhere but give you an idea what to look for.

Basically you can screw/stick these down. They aren't glass so are not illegal and certainly good security measure! They aren't sharp enough to pierce skin but would definitely stop a cat from trying to cross there again.

I've put these along my garden perimeter where cats used to come in (ones in my area are lazy so don't tend to scale large fences) and work a charm.

As for the drive... pave it or similar... only way as anything else I've tried has been a waste of money.

hmm spike strips sound good, yeah tried orange and cat repellents pretty pointless last week in his heat I poured tons of cat repellent in the back of a garden sat down in my room and looked out garden and a cat was sitting on top of the patch I just spread the pellets on.

That pestbye is awesome but id imagine it would go off every 5 minutes not very eco friendly but more fun almost.

Squirt water at them when you catch them at it. Soon they will learn who runs tings in your hood (garden)

I had this problem with cats after my dog died. I didnt think there was thats many cats around. Any way ive got 2 muscovy ducks now and i havent seen a cats since.

Athough i forgot to mention that they eat everything so all your plants would be eaten. But they do keep the grass short.
