Hi

I was in my town centre the other day and saw an SD card on the pavement so picked it up. The contents are someones family photos and it would be nice to give them back to them. How do you go about that? Facebook, put up a poster with a picture on it (I don't really want to put my home/mobile number on it). maybe just pop it into a police station.

I know that if I'd lost some pics I'd like someone to try and give them back.

Cheers

if you don't want to give out your number maybe set up a short term email address and whack that on any poster you put up?

nice you're prepared to make an effort to get the card back to it's rightful owner but the pessimist in me says that is unlikely to happen.

would to be proved wrong though. good luck and let us know how you get on

If you have time to waste:

Google image search might find another copy of a photo.

The photos might have GPS info on them so you could try reading that.

Good luck in trying to trace the owner.

Think iv'e got a lead, the kid in the pic has a school jumper on with their name on it. Perhaps i'll just drop it off at the school.

Just chuck it at the police station, that's more than 99% of the population would bother to do, so still counts as a good deed.

I've just emailed the school to see if they recognise the lad in the pictures (pics taken in 2011 so might be doubtful unless there are younger siblings).

Oh well, worth a go.

I am a little bit mad - married with kids! It helps me through the day.

I did think they might think i'm some sort of weirdo.

Its a small primary (Dunmow, NE of Chelmsford) so I can't imagine there are many primary schools out that way. Just need some teachers with a good memory if date is correct.

In the class my boy is in, we all had to sign to state we wouldn't post any pictures of school plays etc on social media as one of the kids in the class is in some kind of protection program or something.

So for all they know, you could be the boys abusive father who the mother and kid are trying to build a new life away from. Basicly, they wont help you as its not worth them getting in trouble over a SD card.

Just to put this out there, you shouldnt ever put an unknown sd card into your PC. SD cards can contain viruses which run as soon as they are put into a PC as they contain programmable microcontrollers. Putting into a camera is a better method. People have been known to leave SD cards and USB sticks on the floor outside office buildings in the hope that someone inside will be curious and plug it in.

Bit of info if you are wondering.

Cant you googe image search by uploading pictures on the SD Card? See if it reveals any facebook profiles and you can then message them accordingly.

Edit: Beaten!

just tell them you don't personally need to know who the kid is just that if a teacher or someone can positively ID him you'd be happy to send the SD card to the school. surely that would be fine?
