Hi all,

I've built a desktop for my wife (i5 4460 / MSI z97 , 750 ti)

Windows 10 is round the corner (Tomorrow i believe) and i want to get windows on it as cheap as possible.

Windows 7 / 8.1 RETAIL is still very expensive.

There are Global OEM CD keys available on g2a and other websites for £25... will these keys be legitimate and able to upgraded to windows 10. If so will they be tied to my wife's motherboard - which isnt an issue as she will have the PC for some time!

the OEM key will work but you will need to find a OEM disk as the key will not work with windows 8.1 tool as these are retail and again the same with windows 7

they will be able to upgrade to 10 once installed etc as I have OEM version of windows 7 home premium 64 bit and entitled to the update.

if I was you I would just get the retail version of 10 or see if you can get a retail copy of windows 8.1 or 7 with SP1 cheaper (both qualify for the W10 upgrade)

recently there has been issues with people buying these keys and then they are failing to activate due to using retail ISOs and OEM keys.

if you can get a hold of a OEM disk and a cheap key then give it ago the above is just my personal choice really.

I used G2A to order an 8.1 pro 32/64 bit key the other day. The slightly cheaper Win 8 ones (as opposed to 8.1) would have done just the same I suppose. All activated perfectly, I just used MS' mediacreationtool.exe to download the retail ISO and 'burn' it to USB. No problems to report and I've already had (and accepted) the upgrade to Windows 10 offer. If you search G2A for 'Windows 8' you will get results for 'Windows 8.1 OEM' and just 'Windows 8.1' which I presume are retail. At any rate it activated a retail ISO no problems, but ymmv etc etc.

that's good to know, maybe others brought a OEM key instead of a retail 1 which is why they had issues.

I ended up buying windows 7 pro iso sp1 for £27 it came with links to the iso / ms tool for us pen burning and I activated it over the phone no issues at all.

Great way of getting W10 professional cheap I guess even if the oem reg is tied to your motherboard ? :-)

If anything changes I'll let you guys know.
