News about this doesn't seem to have spread very far yet, so I'm going to start a thread here about the recent discovery that the FreeSync range of many monitors is set by the monitor's EDID, which can be overridden...

Here's a thread on another forum describing a method of creating a modified driver to extend the FreeSync range: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1872620

I've tried this myself, and it really works (verified using AMD's FreeSync demo).

Not something I think I would try. I think the range is set by the scaler and you can tell the monitor to do something else but you are working beyond the range of the scaler. Will it cause any long term damage? I don't know, but looking at how hard it is to get these sync monitors working right, I don't think I would chance it.
