Budget 4k graphics card for Lightroom? (NOT gaming!)

So, need a new monitor and looking to upgrade to something like the Asus 28" 4k screen, but on-board graphics will not drive it.

Just need a cheap, quiet 2D GPU capable of driving a 4K screen (I guess at 30Hz over HDMI?), plus a smaller monitor at 1280 - this could also be driven off the onboard GPU. Works laptop will (and regularly does) easily drive a 4K and 2 x 1920 screens on an HD5500 on-chip GPU so, surely, there must be a decent but fairly cheap card that'll drive a non-gaming 4k screen??

Seems a bit overkill to go for an R7/R9 or similar gaming card just to edit photos.... Any suggestions for a solution here?

I wouldn't go for 30hz, even for office work it's nasty.

Just about any modern card (even a cheap one) should be able to drive it at 60hz over DP.

I bought a SAPPHIRE AMD R7 250. It's the fanless version, as I wanted my PC quiet. It has DP 1.2 as well as HDMI, and handles 4k @ 60hz.

I'd have thought so, but finding a cheap card with DP1.2 does not appear to be straightforward; any specific recommendations?

Fezster: Can't see this on OCUK - is it still available? All appear to be with fans. Interested in i) 1GB or 2GB on board? and ii) indication of price?

From what I can tell you should be looking at

R7 240 or better (AMD)
GT 740 or better (Nvidia)

Nothing lower down/older is capable of 3840x2160.

Yes to your question, those will only do 2160@30 over the HDMI (or mini) link. Higher up should do 60.

I was hoping in the sub £50 range.....

Just to edit photos, >£100 and robust 3D gaming capability just seems like needless overkill....

Seems like there is a gap in the market here?

Sadly the fanless one isn't available at ocuk. But you can find it for about £72. It's 1gb ddr5.

Yep, I'm running the 32" version at work and it has DP and HDMI.

Work one is running at 29 Hz and seems OK, but the 6oHz thoughts are welcomed.

Best I can see so far is what I believe is the card mentioned by Fezster, which I think is the R7 250 Ultimate, which is passive cooled and doesn't appear to need external PSU power. A tad over budget, but might be worth an upgrade. Can't see confirmation yet that it does 60 fps @ 4K. Will keep looking. Also not available from OCUK.

Black and silver box? Looks like I'd found the right one, then. Good to have confirmation that it will indeed do 60 fps over DP.
