Global DIY motherboard shipments fall 21.7% during 2015

Why can't you believe it? DIY builders generally know what's what in pc's and there has been nothing that's worth upgrading to so everyone is sticking with what they have until a worthwhile performance increase is available. Makes sense to me.

Intel have been pushing their luck really hard and this is the result IMO. Intel have offered no real reason to upgrade since X58/P67.

A lot of this is the Win 10 effect as well. If you already have X58 no need for anything else SATA2 vs SATA3 is minimal real world difference. Why waste money on newer sockets which will get scrapped anyway when Intel bring in the nextgen proper CPU upgrades in about 2 years time!

Don't forget the bonkers pricing with all the thermal "armour" they're being shipped with as a factor.

Increasing the pricing while there's little interest for the chips was a stupid move.

Have to agree with most of the thoughts here. No real reason to upgrade, I'm on a P67 board and the prices are pretty high. I suspect 2H 2016 will be a big improvement with the new CPU's and GPU's coming out.

I made a build in 2015 because I needed an extra machine, but my previous built with the 2600k is still perfectly usable, and likely to continue be top of the range for a long while...

Apart from the 64GB of RAM in that build that is nice for what I do, the 2600k is still quicker core-to-core than the fancy new 5930k anyway...
