EDIT: Firstly, I did a Ctrl+F through the past 7 pages but couldn't find the usual dashcam thread... Has it gone?

Hi all

I have a Blackvue DR650GW-1CH and the footage simply doesn't seem sharp at all.

For reference, this footage has been transferred over wifi from the cam to my phone, then uploaded to dropbox, downloaded and screenshotted from VLC player using windows snipping tool. As far as I'm aware none of the above should affect quality but thought I'd mention it anyway.

Examples below.

Does this seem correct to you? I have all settings set to the best I can see. Just for reference there is more footage with all cars including mine at a standstill (work car park) and numberplates are easily readable and quite sharp.

This is me passing standstill traffic at about 20/30mph (Mondeo's numberplate isn't even readable and the SEAT itself doesn't look too sharp for 1080p)

This is me again doing 20/30mph and traffic passing me at about 50mph (writing on the van crawling along ahead is unreadable, as are numberplates)

Can you increase the bit rate of the encode?
I'm not sure if that is an option but I'll have a poke in the settings
Thanks! Hasn't been posted in for a while surprisingly
I found my thinkware f770 picture quality is also terrible ...

Do you have a heated screen ?

I do not. But my previous two cars did and I'd say that my mini 0803 in those cars gave slightly better pic quality if anything.

The blackvue parking mode etc and wifi is really nice, so shame if the pic quality lets it down a bit. I've never looked at it too much since fitting a few months back as I thought it would be good enough, but reviewing some footage I'm a bit surprised.

You will fine most cameras will have a certain lighting situation where things do not look good and others where it looks outstanding.

Hmm OK

Maybe just have to accept it how it is then

Some people say having less of the sky in the image helps.. So will maybe experiment with angling it down a couple of clicks and see if there's any improvement :)
