Just made a call back to Barclays (using the number on the back of my card) to confirm a potential fraud issue (which they raised to me in a voicemail message).

Details are limited however they state an ongoing police investigation has revealed a huge amount of card numbers may have been compromised, they would not confirm who but i have two suspects based on my shopping activity, one being the purple logo 'game' place and the other being a nationwide 'car parts' place.

If anyone has shopped with these merchants recently it may well be worth checking your accounts / get yourself ready for a card reissue.

I don't want to directly name a company who may or may not of had a mass amount of card details stolen, reason being if this isn't true and it hurts business i could be in for legal trouble.

So game or Euro Car Parts.

There done.

Got accounts with both of those. Annoying if it does turn out to be one of those.

Pretty obvious it's Euro Ca Parts he's on about.

Jokes on them anyway, I always pay via PayPal for everything online, so am safe :p

I do click and collect with them, and pay in store so hopefully won't be affected. I think it's come to the stage of expecting everything to get hacked at some point now.

I think the government should just regulate this by forcing cards reissuing when an investigation is taking place.

/completely mad plans.

Yes but legislate that the company who's systems have been hacked have to pay the for new cards being issued.

It probably isn't Game and ECP as we had the same message just before Christmas that new cards would be issued and neither of those shops were used. It will be an issue with a merchant account possibly from any online/instore shop and it could have been from months back as they have to store logs.

So i go away for the weekend friday night investigation starts, saturday morning i go to use my card..."oh yay im in a differnt city with no cards".

Instead of "oh yay, someone just took £1000 out of my account".

Which i can get back later with a phone call.

Yep, infinitely better than being conpletley ****** without cards.

Not to mention they investigate thousands and not many are ever affected.
